It's not just the ability to draw/write. It's the mentality. I feel so distant from these artistic types (not necessarily you guys) who don't give a shit if anyone else enjoys their work as long as THEY like it. and would put indulging themselves over their target audience

I see other artists do something perfectly to the point where I get worried if my own artwork isn't good, and sometimes I even get jealous. The good part sometimes comes when said artist tells me what I'm good at, and that I shouldn't worry about it. :D

Not exactly, I get discouraged when I'm in a slump and drawing below my fairly strict standards. Art droughts and art blocks are even worse.

Besides, I get sad when people point out waaaaaay more weaknesses than I'd like to know I had D: I'm trying hard people!

Well, it's not a very different viewpoint sometimes, Ginger, some artists learn to see it your way too (I haven't because I am technically an amateur, lol, but it'd be interesting to have a different viewpoint of things sometimes). I usually draw to relax, myself. Of course, I'm always looking for critique and usually pretty critical of myself, as well. The nice thing about the frequency with which I draw, though, is that when I see a mistake that makes me go "Ffffff-" (which is kind of often, actually), I can let it go and watch out to make sure I don't mess that up with the next drawing.

As for content, I do take audience into consideration to the extent that I want to do something that will draw someone who might want to do a critique. On the other hand, I usually just whimsically go with whatever idea(s) pop into my head (more often than not, this means Twilight Sparkle ). Sometimes I need a little help with the inspiration (which is why I love the ATG themes).

And I'm like Ace where I wouldn't care too much if people started examining my stationary, but I'm fairly guarded about my computer.

Don't say "LEARN TO SEE IT YOUR WAY". As if what I'm saying is unatrual and WRONG

It's not wrong, Ginger, it's just another way of seeing things that we want to learn too because it has serious advantages of its own and it helps us break some bad habits or push our creativity to see things in other ways besides what we normally see in our groove.

I can draw pretty well, but it's nothing special though. I'd say my skills are about average.

Ginger: Stop taking things like that. You know that's not what he meant. People get stuck in their ways and get tunnel vision. They have to learn to take into account other peoples' views is the point. There's people with the same ideal as you, but can't see it the artsy way. Same deal there.

EDIT: As for my own skill level, I honestly never really have an idea where I sit. I always think "hey, I'm doing pretty good now" and then two months later, look back at that same stuff and go "agh, all those mistakes!" It's both uplifting (because I see clear improvement) and confusing at the same time. So I just label myself as "needs improvement" all the time.
