Yeah, but if you think about it, Luna isn't a minor character; technically she's just as important as Celestia.

In-universe, maybe. But in terms of the plot, she's only important for one or two scenes (if you make the distinction between Luna and Nightmare Moon, anyway).

For season one, at any rate. Who knows what'll happen in season two?

I think someone drew a picture of Luna about to join the Gala, but backed away when she saw Fluttershy yelling at animals. Not canon, but it was funny.

People like Luna because she's so defensive and mysterious. They like projecting her as so weak and scared so they can protect her, hug her, and assure her everything's going to be alright.
