I've got a feeling that Pumpkin was only able to levitate because of it being a surge of magic, and also because as a 1 month old baby, she isn't very heavy.
I have a message from another time...
Yeah. These kids have been shown as better at using their powers then the CMC. If there was an earth pony there their room would be covered in wheat.
Okay, rewatching the beginning, Rarity mentioned baby unicorns getting strange magic surges. So the freakish mutant powers are a normal thing. That still doesn't explain how the pegasus can carry Pinkie.
Yeah, I wonder if all month-olds are able to use their powers or fly?
Nice to see you won't go crazy, Ginger.
I think I have an explanation for HAX babies: Their magic is just coming in. Rarity did say they get 'strange' magic surges, so it's probably just that magic goes wild when it first shows up (For all races), and does some weird shit with little influence from the wee'uns.
Twilight and Rarity
did warn them that Pumpkin would wind up exhibiting surges of magic.
And I suppose it wasn't a
warning but Rainbow accurately predicted what Pound got up to once he got his wings working.
I have a message from another time...
Maybe baby ponies all get weird surges during the early years? Pound Cake can carry Pinkie because pegasi do have magic that allows them to carry heavier things (see: the chariot, Fluttershy's cart, etc).
Or coating the house with ivy and wheat in a matter of minutes. OK. That makes sense it's just a temp thing.
Ginger, you're a heartless son of a mule. >:(
Spooky.
@Ginger: I think the writers just run out of time, and frankly with 3 minutes left I don't see any other resolution that wouldn't end happily. That said, pacing and weird resolutions are not uncommon problems with this show.
