My idea is that the Hisaanin* treat Celestia as a deity who represents the harshness of the summer sun. Luna by contrast is venerated as a goddess of navigation (the stars only appearing at night) and the lunar calendar and is generally more popular with the common pony. Basically, Luna is essentially Sin to Celestia's Nergal.

[up] I would assume they have nocturnal behavior, because the desert isn't so hot at night.

Exactly. I thought I didn't have to say it since it would be so obvious.

Concerning Twilight's breakdown in Lesson Zero: My overly in-depth explanation of it is here, in the "Disaster Strikes" section. General gist of it is 1. Twilight is naturally high strung 2. being at literally the highest academic level in the entire kingdom puts a lot of pressure on her to live up to expectations 3. if she's never gotten caught in a massive screwup before, she has no point of reference for how bad it'll actually be, and as a result she assumes the worst.

[up] I think she's never had anything bigger than going to Ponyville before. She probably just sat around her library, and researched whatever Celestia asked her to do, maybe taking some sort of exam every now and then.

Wait, is magic kindergarten a real place? If so, then why wasn't Sweetie sent there? Is it because it's an extension of CSFGU? Or is it because there isn't a Magic Kindergarden branch in Ponyville?

I think it may simply be the kindergarden class of Celestia's School for gifted Unicorns. But come to think of it, I am sort of wondering if there's a Unicorn equivalent of Summer Flight Camp. Sweeite wouldn't be there because it's during the school year, I guess.

... Have we ever seen Sweetie use magic? I know she's still young so wouldn't be strong at all with it, but I wonder if it's possible for a unicorn to be born a dud.

[up][up] I certainly hope not. That'd just be sad.

I reckon her magic could be tailored towards magically amplifying her voice.

Maybe unicorns only go there once they start actually manifesting magic? Just a basic primer on how to control there magic and what not.

Like a pegasus and flight camp, no sense going to it if you can't fly, or in MKG's case do magic.

Oh idea, Sweetie starts getting her magic, but instead of going away to MKG, Twilight has to tutor her. Hijinxs ensue. And building from that, maybe it is how it works in the smaller towns where there isn't a high concentration on unicorns, when a young uni starts getting her power, she just gets tought how to control it by a mentor figure/family memeber, and MKG is just more of a Canterlot thing due to how many young unicorns there are at any one time.

Sweeite's voice is already loud. Like, pretty nearly at RCV levels already. How much damaged could she cause with an amp?

Why would she go to Twilight, though? I would think she would go to Rarity first. Unless she was talented in magic... Ooh, that could mae an interesting lesson! She turns out to be really good at magic, but doesn't actually like it at all. Twilight tries to tutor her, and everypony thinks she's going to get a magic cutie mark, but she just thinks the whole thing is boring. The lesson is that just because you're good at something doesn't mean you have to do it. you should do something because you enjoy it, whether you're good at it or not.

Meh, doesn't really seem to make sense with all we know about cutie marks so far, a unicorns magical aptitude is determined by the same factors that determine there cutie mark, and it's always something they enjoy doing, so don't see that happening.

Maybe it is usually an older family member that teaches a young unicorn, but when Twilight hears Sweetie is starting to manifest magic, she starts giving her and Rarity so much advice on the proper way to learn/teach that finally they just figure it would be easier to let her do it.

as to what Sweetie's magic could do since her talent is singing...sonic projection spell? make her voice carry far further then it would, without just upping the volume to eardrum shattering levels while close. Or a spell that lets her give herself musical accompaniment.

I don't think Sweetie will need to go to MKG. She probably won't be particularly gifted, and anything she wants to learn Twilight could teach her. Besides, that's quite a commute from Ponyville to Canterlot.

Well again, that's if it's even normal for there to be a special class for unicorns unless your in a town/city with a large unicorn population to begin with, like Canterlot.

That fear of magic kindergarten reminds me of Asian schools. Granted, not that far back, but remarks about being sent back 1-5 years fly around casually.

@kegisak: How often is it in real life that you meet people who outright dislike something they're good at? Most of the things I like because I'm good at it. That's even how I choose my education and later occupation track.

I'm reading the newest Overthinking review. It's good as always, JT.

However, I'd like to mention something about the chewing on the frying pan scene. It may not be specifically related to the Zap Apples, but I think that she was biting the pan to make sure that the pan itself was of good quality. Tasty Iron, if you will. After all, if your teeth can sink into a frying pan, then the metal's bad quality, isn't it?
