I can honestly say that I only enjoy the idea of Celestia being a villain in theory because of how intelligent she is. Not once have I ever actually thought that she was any kind of tyrant

Here's a thought. Where did the Apple Family hail from? Granny Smith definitely mentioned in her flashback that she was part of the Smith family when they founded Ponyville.

Celestia being treated as a serious villain doesn't really interest me. Her as a tyrant just seems too out of character. Celestia being a massive dick to her subjects however I find hilarious.

To be honest, I think Celestria is a little bit of a troll, but thats it. Mostly I see her as a Chess Master.

It's like everyone WANTS her to be a troll. Ever notice that all of her "pranks" either serve to teach someone a lesson (ticket master) or to diffuse tension and make them lighten up? (The teacup thing in A Bird In The Hoof)

I just HATE the term troll. Being an asshole for the sake of being an asshole is disgusting. Call her something else!

Because Celestia being a bit of a prankster is more fun than her just being the infallible mentor. And yeah, troll isn't really the best description.

@ Ginger I think part of the reason is that Celestia is so good and perfect in every sense. I mean who wouldnt like someone like her to be your teacher/mentor/boss ?

By instinct you espect that she has to have somekind of flaw like Real Life authories.

But that's what I find fascinating about her. The fact that she NEEEEEEDS to be perfect all the time because of her status as Equestria's formost role model.

I'd rather her be mentally overwhelmed by her job than her being an obnoxious prankster

Actually, Celestia is much better as someone powerful, elegant, but still close-to-earth enough to enjoy some fun with her subjects.

And having her having some sort of breakdown...Maybe as a Season Finale ? With the Mane 6 and Luna making her smile again.

But we don't actually have any indication that she is overly stressed. Every time we've seen her she seems perfectly happy, except for when Discord broke out. We have however seen her joke around, so we've got some actual canon basis for her being a prankster.

I always had the impression that Celestia is physically incapable of having fun by herself anymore. She only feels joy when she's watching her subjects be happy
