And who says there isn't Ginger? Again, we've seen again and again that she doesn't beleive herself that she is really as great as she brags she is. Yes she can do a Sonic Rainboom that no other pony even thought was possible, but whose to say that now that they KNOW it's possible other ponies won't be able to duplicate it.

Furthermore, the very fact that she idolizes the Wonderbolts says that she wants to be like them, as in she thinks they are as good if not better then her. Untill we actually see RD outperform a Wonderbolt, there is no evidence that RD is actually better then them, and hence no evidence she is the best flier.

Rarity's character involves being narcissistic and proactively nice at the same time, at the drop of a hat. You can sneak in both as little moments anywhere (my favourite being that scene where Rarity is all dressed up and refused to get into the mud, then offered her umbrella to Twilight). If RD's greatest strength is her loyalty, and that's the defining character they want to give her, that requires a lot more setup.

Also I think Rarity is so well-written precisely because the writers are aware that she's going to be the easiest one to hate. I'm not sure if they're aware that RD can be one as well.

Re: characters being the best, I'm not sure why that matters in a slice of life series. They also live in Ponyville, mind, a small town, so they appear to be the best simply because they're the only one doing that job.

I think the "best at their area of expertise" thing would bug me more if it were more relevant to the plot. But the conflicts in the show are rarely if ever based on that, so I don't think it's a problem. Like if Rainbow Dash is the best flier ever (which I don't think she is), it really doesn't make a difference if the plot is about her learning to get along with Fluttershy or whatever.

The best in town, yeah. For all we know there are professionals out there who can do a better job, but the Mane 6 are simply the best in Ponyville.

Villains and Mentors are the only characters who're allowed to be overpowered

I doubt Rainbow Dash is close to being the best flyer in Equestria yet. You don't see any of the Wonderbolts crashing constantly. The Sonic Rainboom may be impressive, but is looks like it's just a matter of going really fast. So RD may be the fastest flyer in Equestria, but that doesn't make her the most talented.

I think dashy is treated just fine in the season. i just don't analyze stuff like some people do. i'm not that kind of person.

not exactly while some flaws do require to be overcomed. Characters always need to have flaws no matter what.

An evil ghost character...I'd have that as my overpowered villian...unkillable...appears anywhere at anytime...all round terrifying...yeah I've been watching Insidious again...

Meanwhile, RD has the nickname "Rainbow Crash" for a reason.

1. There's a reason Showy Invincible Hero exists.

2. There's no evidence, ZERO for any pony other then Twi being better then every other pony at something. And even Twi is ony OP in one specific are, raw magical potential. potential she still learning how to harness it and direct how she wants, and she along with all other ponies fails quite often.

You are correct.

I guess it just bugs how quick people are to say any and all flaws are automatically a good thing for a character. I just don't think flaws for flaws sake is a good thing.

If RD was the best at what she did, she would be a wonderbolt by now. And the rest of the mane cast are very close to being the best at what they do too.

As for the new episode, it's really good, especially considering the near zero involvement of the mane cast. Granny was awesome, AB was super cute (especially Bunny!AB, she even had expressive ears in the suit ), and background is great as always. It's nice that they're actually building a reletively deep canon for this show. It gets two thumbs up from me.

Edit: I wouldn't say that the season has been too terrible on RD, she is the one who apologizes first in Hearth's Warming Eve. At least, I didn't expect that.

Applelight, Clive Barker's Undying is a horror themed FPS which combined some of the best elements of the gothic tradition with a touch of Lovecraft. The game begins when the player is called to the home of the man who served as his captain during WWI and is asked to help lift the curse on his family. His dead sibling's are all trying to murder him to complete a ritual they unknowingly began as children. At various points you are harried by poltergeists as well as the ghost of one brother who was chained in a basement, had his jaw removed, and was left to be feasted on by rats.

Even so, no-pony in the show is anywhere near that level, except the Princesses, maybe, even then it would be in a straight up fight, they've both proven they can make mistakes, so complaining about it in regards to the show makes no sense.
