Hell, nopony know exactly what happened in the everfree forest when Granny Smith found those zap apples the first time. They just know she seemed awfully funny when she came back, like maybe she weren't quite the same somehow. Some days her folk's'd find her just sittin' out on the porchin, starin at the forest. Never movin' a muscle, never sayin' a word, just starin'. Mighty peculier, folks used to think. But she knew things, she did. Started makin' Zap apple jam before you knew it. Knew exactly how to make it, too. Knew how to farm the land just right, knew how to talk to the animals just right too.

Mighty Peculiar, that little Miss Smith was. Always looked so pretty, sittin there in the sunshine, starin' away. Why, the colt's'd come for miles just to get a look at her. She was mighty popular with em', you know. Got em' helping out on the farm. Why if it weren't for all the colts come around asking for her hoof in marriage, I'll bet there never woulda been a ponyville. Course she only ever had eyes for one stallion. Never married again, after he passed on. She just kept on goin', looking after the kids, and the grandkids... and the great grandkids... It's no wonder she's so peculiar, an account of how old she is. Mighty peculiar, that Granny Smith. Day after day, just lookin' away at the everfree forest.

Still ain't nopony who knows just went on in there that night she found the zap apples for the first time...

@ tented Canterlot. On the second viewing, I think that was the market place. If you look the ponyville market Granny and AB go to has a lot of tents as well. Ponies just use tents for stuff like that because it makes sense, why have a solid immovable store for a market place like that, same idea as a stall on wheels, only looks better. You can set it up when you got stuff to sell, then take it down when your done and not have to worry about it when your not selling stuff.
Build a fool proof system, and the world will create a better fool.

Fun fact, I once said something like that about a different series, got the same response, only completely serious.

I liked it better than other episodes, I guess I'm just kind of getting a bit tired of the CMC. I get that they're using them because they're young, and the audience is young, but I wish we could deal with more mature (ish) problems.

Well, if you look at the subtext, the CM Cs are really, really trying to reach Puberty...

Ugh, I need to go sit down.

It's just that It's Been Done, many times. Learning to appreciate your elders, even if they're weird. It's Been Done many times. And it's a bit old. It was a nice episode, but it brought nothing new to the table. Kid morals and aesops are VERY common, and have been done many times. That is why I brought it up.

Some of the morals are definitely new, and those interest me, but this one was just a meh.

Wait, are you saying that YOU'VE never had to deal with an embarassing familty member? I can sympathize with this ep all too well. XD

I'd say it's more relevent when you're a teenager. [lol]

I don't judge an ep based on it's moral

Alright, overthinking time. In "Winter Wrap Up" Twilight says "Ponyville was started by Earth Ponies, so for hundreds of years they never used magic to clean up winter."

So maybe what she said could be interpreted as she meant Earth Ponies in general haven't used magic for Winter Wrap Up for centuries and because Ponyville was founded by Earth Ponies, they follow Earth traditions.

Its best not to think too hard about it.

Just finished.

Thoughts on Episode 12 S2:

Granny Smith is awesome. End of story.

The Zap Apples are really cool, I really liked to story of how Granny Smith found them as well as how Ponyvile was founded. (Ginger! You got it right!) Princess Celestia just so hapened to have a hand in it? Why am I not supprised?

NO LETTER? Blashphamy!

I wonder what Zap Apple jam tastes like...

[up] Or Granny Smith is indeed that old.

I loved the CMC this episode, Sweetie has the cutest voice.

Also, loved the visual of Scoots hitting the lamp to represent an idea lightbulb.

I analyze "Geek Culture" here.

I liked that they tied the jam into Ponyville history. And this confirms that ponies have human length life spans approximately. Shame for a lack of the other members of the MC though. So is Granny Smith blond lust hidden by the sepia tone of the flashback?

Ginger: Since the moral is what runs the plot, I'd say it's a good indicator, unless they go about it in a new and interesting way, which they occasionally have. And it's relatable, but it's nothing new.

So, has Granny Smith always been called Granny? Damn you weird pony naming conventions!

Looks like /pony/ has settled on "Russell" (after the kid in Up) as a name for the pudgy colt in Cheerilee's class.

Also, I hope Big Mac with wavy hair is going to become a meme. It's the perfect counterpart to Wet Mane Rarity.
Bide your time and hold out hope.
