Every time we see some new creature from the Everfree Forest it gets a little bit crazier that Celestia thought right next to it was the perfect place for a town. She must have secretly hated the Apple family.

Yeah, this episode totally made me like Granny Smith more. I expected at least some history, but not the founding of Ponyville. That was a really nice surprise. The Apple family is behind two important towns in Equestria. Never would have thought that.

I really liked all the Diamond Tiara in this episode. I’m one of those rare people who actually like the two of them. *

I think the best part of the episode for me was the Zap Apples. They were just magical silliness.

@Crow I think Celestia saw that they were going t0 run out of food, so she set them up in a place where they'd be able to find the Zap-Apple trees. She realized that they were such good farmers they'd be able to harvest them right.

Okay, So I think I may be starting to narrow in on what Earth Ponies do, exactly.

Normal, everyday plants are one thing. They can help, but it's only sort of meh. Magical plants, on the other hand, are their specialty. They can grow 'em right quick, and intuitively know their special needs better than other ponies.

Not saying the ALL plants need EP's to grow, there WAY to many of them for that, just that EP's can make ANY plant grow better/faster/produce better fruit etc...

They can still be better than average at regular farming, and even better with magical plants. Still works out.

My only question is if all this bizarre stuff like talking to the jars or painting polka dots on the wall is necessary for making Zap Apple Jam, why did AB seem so surprised when Granny Smith was doing it? We know they've done this before...
