It's plausible and a pretty interesting theory. I always assumed Winona was a gift.

@ Applelight: Whether they could be raised from infancy to be an assistant or what not would probably depend on whether their destructive tendencies and hoarding habits are instinctual or a societal construct. And if they are instinctual, how easily they are curbed.

Now we just need to see an old relative of Winona following Granny Smith around with a tiny dog cane.

There really should be an episode where its all the pets together as the focus, with them communicating in pet languages with subtitles and everything.

Owlwicious would be the leader, but far more world savvy and less finicky for details than Twilight; Angel the snarky, hot-headed Lancer; Winoa just like Applejack, but more hyper and naive; Tank is the Dogged Nice Guy who's loyal and athletic, but is as humble as he is slow; Opal would be a bigger arrogant snob than her master and only says she barely tolerates the other pets where in actuality she loves them like a family; and Gummy would be the ultimate straight man, a seemingly emotionless stoic that spouts out long winded yet surprisingly profound philosophical musings with only a single gurgle.

@Applelight: That just might be a good idea for a CMC episode, or maybe a RARITY episode! XD

I actually like to think that Gummy is fully and totally aware of everything that goes on around him, because it makes his no-fuck-giving even more hilarious.
