I am sorry you've been accused of that. I do not see people having all white casts as racism. I just see it as a lack of creativity thought being put into them, since I see skin tone as just another weapon you can use to make characters diverse from each other, along with powers, eye colors, hair colors, clothing, personality, etc. etc.

Well, you can draw them how you envision them, but lots of times, our brains simplify things.

Here's an example:

You are mugged while going into an alley.

Picture a mugger.

You probably pictured the mugger as male, and most likely either as a white punk, or a black thug, with some leeway in between.

Sure, that's how your mind naturally created them, but it's drawing on past experiences from media. The key as an artist, is to not only take what you envision, but question the elements of which you envision, and really analyze it. Keep the tone, but work on the actual traits in order to convey that tone in the best possible way.

For example, I picture a hispanic man, with a beard, and a hoodie, with it covering his face, with the hoodie being gray.

Now, why did I picture it like that? If I were to draw it, would it be better with the full beard, or just one that lightly covers his chin?

Should there be a logo on his hoodie? Would the colors match well with the dynamics of the rest of the scene? Should it be a man at all? Is the universe I'm working in home to different stereotypes and statistics than the one I'm used to?
