I read a fic about Doctor Whoof called "Sepia Tock, " in which he's a clockmaker. Supposedly he can make clocks better than any unicorns, but that's probably a macho mark thing.

@ Sky Strike: The Pegasi seem to be the personal guards of the Princesses (as in they follow them around). Unicorn and Earth Pony Guards have only been seen in Canterlot IIRC.

Just like back ups on Sport teams. I imagine. I've never watched a sport but I imagine they don't do much.

@ Fallen Legend: But it wouldn't be sad if a Pegasus wanted to be a Unicorn or vice versa or an Earth Pony wanting to be another race?

I'd be a unicorn. I lean towards using my brain way more than my body, so I'm not athletic enough to be an EP or unicorn.

@Ginger: My take on it is that a pegasus could be a farmer, they'd just be much worse at it than an EP with a comparable amount of experience. Like if you gave them each a farm to run with the same level of fertility and resources, the pegasus farm would produce stuff, but the EP farm would produce way more.

^Exactly. I imagine the vast majority of ponies find fulfillment in what they can do, though.

And the other kinds may not be able to grow food, but that doesn't mean they can't be involved with the farming. There's harvesting, watering, taking care of the cows and sheep. All sorts of tasks they could do.

Why do we always assume unicorns are weak? I can imagine a lot of them are pretty wimpy just from using telekinesis all the time, but I think if they tried, they could probably reach Earth Pony strength levels.
