Normally, I'd just dismiss this as a "fine, it's your time, do what you want with it" thing, but the "no chance of disliking" bit gives me pause.

You shouldn't limit yourself like that, or you won't open yourself up enough to enjoy much of anything.

They make me feel lazy because I find it hard to finish compiling my story ideas :V

because I have an INSANELY strong bias against fanfics. I'd need to KNOW that I'd enjoy it, in order for me to like it despite my bias.

All I can recomend is you try Ginger. You can never tell how you would react to something until you tried it. I mean, You got into this fandom, even with the problem that its a girls show, didn't you?

I'm in the same boat. I'm mostly against fanfic, as I have a very low tolerance for bad writing and OOC moments. I still gave 'The Best Night Ever' a try, just for the sake of giving it a try. It was incredibly fun (apart from the ending, which, while perfectly good, just happened to push one of my bad buttons), and gave me a good reason go watch Groundhog Day while I was at it. A while later, I also tried that one story where Spike and Rainbow Dash compete for a sofa. Not quite as good, but at least entertaining.

I am still very much biased against fanfic. But still, there is some joy to be had in finding gems amongst the shit. Especially when other people do the digging for you and point you towards the gems, to extend the metaphor a bit.

Seriously, since you are here discussing ponies, you probably aren't very busy. How about stepping out of your comfort zone for a few minutes and see what the weather is like over there? If you like it, great, you are getting entertained. If you don't, great, you get to complain about it here on the next episode of the Gingerninja show.

And yeah, I am actually quite picky about my fanfics, but am willing to put up with some minor grammar/spelling mixups if the story is good enough, or the tale is told well.

Me, when it doubt, I give it at least a couple of paragraphs. If I find it the least bit intriguing or entertaining, then I'll keep going. But I soon as I get bored, I drop it and move on.

That metaphor kind of makes me feel like a Diamond Dog. Except I search for Fanfics and music instead of gems.

I'll read anything that can interest me. If it fails that early I'll stop, if late I'll keep going out of an obligation and hope that it'll get better. Actually that's how TV works for me as well. At least two shows I watch are for those reasons.

Reminds me of an Avatar: The Last Airbender gallery of Batman villains I saw. Didn't AJ dress as the Scarecrow once? Wonder who the Joker is going to be.

I don't really filter my stuff, because I always find the best stuff at random. A lot of my absolute favorite anime are ones I picked up and bought on a whim.

Villains are more suited to some kinds of story than others, Ginger. I for one tire of villains being bribed by hack Authors to pop up in their fics and breaking the narrative mood.

Ginger, I think you might have latent Heroic Blood Knight tendencies or something if you need villains to keep your interest hooked.

If you want to completely transplant the character of The Joker into the MLPverse, maybe. But if you just want to pull a character to compare to him, it's usually sufficient to capture his spirit.

And in that regard, I think they both have a tendency towards using other people, with total disregard for their well-being, purely for the lulz. Sick, twisted lulz.

It's not that. I find them more interesting. I like Magnificent Bastards. I enjoy their motivations, I feel sympathy for them (When I tried writing a story I focused more and more on the villain until I eventuall gave up and made him a Villain Protagonist)

Villains are personified conflict. Conflict is what I enjoy most in stories

I agree with Ginger villains that don't have anything cool in them tend to be boring. Sometimes even a good villain can steal the spotlight of the hero like it happened in The Dark Knight.
