Well most people AREN'T like that. They choose to put the effort into the areas that they're interested in (which in Equestria is dictated by their cutie mark)

It isn't a PHYSICAL limitation, it's a MENTAL limitation. A cutie mark signifies how motivated you would be to learn certain types of magic

However, some people are just better at it then others, or have an easier time understanding concept. Same with magic, some ponies can learn pretty much anything, because they understand magic as a whole, while others just focus on magic that goes with there interests, since they can understand it better. They COULD learn other types, but the time and effort it would take my just not be worth it.

Obviously, but it still means that if something interests you, even if you're not good at it, you can indeed become VERY good at it, no matter how different it is compared to your normal skill sets.

No there good at a whole range of things, not JUST one thing. Sure there cutie mark might indicate one particular thing, but they also seem to come complete with the whole host of Required Secondary Powers that go along with it. And nopony ever said Cutie Marks were exclusionary, having one doesn't mean it's the ONLY thing your good at, just that it is both the thing your best at and what you love doing the most.

Cutie Marks aren't as specific as you think. I'd say ponies are interested in and are good at anything related to their mark which could potentially be a pretty wide field.

Look at Rarity's, which I think means "Making things look beautiful" She has the drive to do anything related to that tennent

Still though, there are probably plenty of ponies who have an interest outside of their cutie mark. Just like in real life, even if your passion is X, and that covers the Y and Z, you might still be interested in Q.

He seems to be trying to make the argument that most unicorns can learn wide varieties of magic, removing the problem of crippling overspecialization that stops unicorns from being overpowered

Personally, I just think that while magic might have a bit of a branch out, not to the extent that human possibilities do, just because magic is way more versatile.
