I must say Surprise being a pegasus and Fluttershy an earth pony makes way more sense. Surprise also has best colour scheme.

I am also amused @ just how redundant those G1 cutie marks are. One flower isn't enough, you gotta have at least six.

Essentially most fanon interpretations of Surprise boil down to "she is exactly like Pinkie Pie, except 'better' in every way."

@Ginger from Last page: Ziggy Stardust is the fanon name of the bouncer who turned away Rarity from 'Green Isn't Your Colour', the one with the Mohawk. I wrote a shipfic with him and Vinyl on a whim and a request, and it was the first thing I ever wrote, so it has a special place in my heart, despite my numerous issues with it.

As for why I like Discolestia rather than princest... I don't know. I think it just sort of lends a new level of something when you think of Discord and Celestia as bitter ex-lovers. Plus I really like to think of Discord as someone who started off good, and turned evil later. I always like villains that are at the same time very sympathetic, and undeniably evil.

Question: Are Ursas the only Star Beasts or do you think there are others? Like Canis Major and Minor.

Regarding the "only earth ponies can grow things" topic from some pages ago, unicorn Gardenia Glow's card apparently says the following: So the friends in question are earth ponies, then?

@Super Gex: Welcome to the herd. Fair warning: this thread moves uber fast. I'm sure there's some sort of fanon take on that pony someplace, but I can't remember it off the top of my head.

Anyway, about Trixie and Luna. I think there's a difference in that Trixie has an established personality, while Luna was basically a blank slate. I have no doubt that it might turn out okay if Trixie returns, but I'm not too sure. With Luna, I think the fandom was subconsciously prepared; we all knew that she had no canon personality, and that with her being Celestia's sister there was a good chance that she'd pop up again. With Trixie, the fanon has more basis, and thus there could be a greater uproar if it gets disproven. The other thing is that Trixie is pretty obviously written to be a one-shot character, so if she does show up again, it's almost definitely going to be in response to her popularity with the fans, which also means a greater outcry if she isn't characterized to fan specifications. Don't get me wrong, I think it could work, I just think that if the fandom can get butthurt over stuff like the Heartstrings toy not being named "Lyra", it isn't a stretch to think that they'd complain about something like this. Hopefully they won't, though. By an large they've been pretty good about stuff like that.

Either that or it's a flower garden. Maybe non-EP's can grow ornamental stuff. Or they can grow plants, just not nearly as well.

Well, magic is magic. It's possible that a unicorn could simply have a gift for mimicking the Earth Pony's plant-growing magic.

Hmmm, well, no reason Discord/Celestia and Princest couldn't have BOTH happened at some point.

She could also be skilled in the physical aspects and principles of gardening, which would be an learned skill rather than an innate magical talent.

Earth Ponies can grow things much more efficiently and probably overproduced when it came to feeding themselves. Considering how few Unicorns would be skilled in making plants grow even if that was a possible thing for them to have their natural magical specialty be in, I doubt they would be able to sustain themselves nearly as well.

They can't grow enough food to support an entire society. There's a big difference between having a garden with half a dozen different plants and growing enough food to live off of without getting food from elsewhere.

I believed Earth Ponies possessed most, if not all, of the fertile lands...Nothing can grow on clouds, and it seemed that the unicorns lived in some kind of Canterlot-like town. When you have all the land, you have all the food.
