The flashbacks weren't the most accurate things though. Unless you want to claim that only two ponies from each race went looking for a new land.

Anyways, it's been outright stated by word of God that EP's are connected to the earth. The plant thing is the best I've got, unless I want to start deviating from Canon and start making guesses, and to be honest I'm done with that for a while, thank you.

Even if that didn't really happen, the best evidence we have for supernatural growth is Sweet Apple Acres being ready for harvest all year round. That's some impressive growing speed.

maybe their magic simply lets them cast a spell that prunes the plants exactly the way they want them, and they otherwise have to grow the plants are normal...compared to an EP who can go super pony on them...

Plus she was selling apples in what looked like the middle of summer. Apples don't get ready to be harvested until at least early fall, so far as I know. Probably the bulk of the trees grow at a normal rate, but others are set aside to grow faster for profits year-round. That, or they've somehow managed to trick the trees into growing at different rates and staggering harvest, which is pretty damn impressive on it's own.

@ Ginger: A: Twilight is the end all greatest that Unicorns can be. I think it's reasonable that she is capable of above average feats. Stick Rarity against a dam, she'll fail. Sparkler would fail. Trixie would fail.

B: All the Sonic Rain Nuke managed to do was destroy a barn that had to be weakened first and was saggy and old anyway. It was mostly a flash of light. I will argue that Rainbow Dash is close to the pinnacle that Pegasi can be and even she can just do that.

C: Do they? They can grow plants in the middle of the desert is that not impressive? AJ who is just an Earth Pony farmer can go toe to toe with Rainbow Dash possibly the best Pegasus we've seen. And still come out looking better. She's fast enough to tackle Pegasi out of the air. Sure they can't make flashy light shows but they are stronger, faster and have greater endurance than the other races.

@Lurker. I have a thing for competence. So natrually my favourite types of villains are magnificent bastards.

When it comes to motivation, well, I like a villain with a bit of sympathy to him/her. That's not to say I don't enjoy a good cartoony villain every now and then (because they can be really, REALLY fun) it's just I prefer it when we get a bit of insight into what's going on insde their heads.

I always find villains more interesting than heroes anyway. I personal motto of mine has always been: "A film is only as good as it's villain"

Hey Ginger, what if Earth Ponies had a talent for growing magical plants? Things like heart desire. After all, Ponyville is a predominantly Earth Pony town, and Zecora said it pretty much grew like weeds around there. So what if Earth Ponies just had a talent for growing plants with inherently magical properties, and with a bit of study they could use them to make potions and stuff with lots of neat effects?

Yep, villains really tend to make shows. Though, sometimes you have a protagonist who is just as much of a Magnificent Bastard as the best of villains, and those are even better IMO because they tend to stick around. Case in point: Batman. Pony related example: common interpretations of Celestia.

Before people start discussing the whole 'Ponychan and gay people', I'd like to point out that that might or might not be counted as 'importing internet drama'.

As for anything else that seems to matter in this thread: Ginger, please give it a rest. All of it.
