I've had to write her in
The Colour You Bleed - I write her being fairly confidant and a bit wry with others, but serious when she has something important to say, and on the whole not actually very personable. I actually took her as probably not
liking the new political scene very much. My theory was that when she went to Ponyville she went to make friends, not to be lauded or worshiped, and she doesn't really care for being adulated by 2-bit aristocrats. So she enjoys talking to ponies as long as they treat her like just another pony, much like her sister in that respect.
I also dropped the
Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe, though I kept a bit of a more traditional speech structure - I figured she reserved the fancy talk and royal We for her subjects, and stuck to more simple speech when she was with somepony she was comfortable with.
Do any
other writers take that approach, or really give her character as much thought as I tend to? Couldn't say, I don't really read fanfiction. But I can at least say there are some outliers of the fandom who want her to have a real, deep personality.
