Yeah, it's really that way with just about anything. I personally experienced it with learning to play piano. You always suck at the beginning; it's just a question of whether you're going to keep it up. I'd love to start drawing, but I just don't have the time to put into it at the moment. That and I suck at shading. I can get the body shapes down okay, but the moment I try to put light on it ends up looking terrible. No doubt I could learn it eventually, but it would take forever.

Teeth: Shading is indeed like the rest of learning to draw in terms of just doing it until you get it. Believe me, I muddled my way from "Oh crap, what am I doing?" to "Well, okay, I kind of get it now" through trial and error. And I'm still trying to figure out the rest. >.>

Not anymore. A lot of us did, though. There was a big hubbub on Equestria Daily dealing with it too. I guess they just wanted to spread the love.

You know, we have fanfic writers and artists in this thread, but I don't think anyone here makes pony music. I would try myself, since music seems to be the art form I'm best at, but I nether have the tools, experience or the time to do so for the next few weeks... Does anyone else make music here?

I toy around with Garage Band a little bit every now again, but I'm no composer, and my remixing abilities amount to taking a midi file and messing with the instruments, tempo, and key. Otherwise I'm pretty useless at that kind of stuff though.

The huge problem with drawing is that it is not systematic in any way whatsoever.

How to learn how to write? Think of a story (very important). Define characters. While plot. Clear up grammar. Eliminate inconsistencies. Get rid of the useless synonyms and insanely overcomplicated sentences. Big words don't make anything better.

How to learn how to draw? Draw everything for years. If you screwed up, there is no way to learn how to improve.

Cookoo: I used to try to make music. I seem to be kind of bad at getting it from my head to the program, though (probably doesn't help that I use a kind of 'meh' program). So I'll get this idea for a big orchestral sequence in my head and then... get something in that only half sounds like it. I also haven't tried in something like 5 months and I wasn't working on anything pony (or anything original, at least... I was working on just putting the theme song in from those music sheets posted way back and just messing around to learn by example of a pro).

CDRW: But then that would ruin her books and I don't think Twi would do that (even as cute as it sounds). >.>

EDIT: There's a bunch of basics, like guideline stuff and techniques for basic shapes. Most of which I couldn't really tell you about, though, seeing as how I'm self taught through trial and error. I usually find my mistakes by comparing the form of my drawing against someone else's drawing or official art. Then it's a matter of doing everything that was right last time right again and then not screwing up whatever it was I noticed.

Before I go to sleep, does anyone here have any basic TL;DR stuff for art practice? The likes of:

Draw a cube with lighting so and so. This is how it must looks like. This is incorrect. That is also a common mistake.

I would of continued reading drawing on the right sight of the brain but I am in doubt - I am afraid it's unscientific and only shows faux progress because it teaches how to properly trace.
