I agree though, she'd need to be up on her stuff climate wise.

Which pisses me off. Why can't ONE character who isn't AJ be... not highly intelligent? Or more specifically, why did it have to be HER?! She's already got all the overpowered brawn that she needs

@Applelight: Kinda, although maybe more general than that. Things that are at opposite ends of a spectrum. "Most/least creative" might work.

Aj is smart, her expertise is in agriculture and family matters. She's also accomplished in business, although she clearly hates maths that goes beyond two decimal places and uses fancy operations she never got around to learning.

AJ is wise...a special kind of smart.

AJ knows exactly what she has to to work, and so does Dash, I imagine. Dash is a member of the Weather Team over Ponyville, so she must know her stuff - if not by scientific names, then she has to know the different types of clouds, how and where to make them form for storms or gentle rain or snow, and things like that - and every pegasus has to know about air currents and flight aerodynamics, or they wouldn't be able to get anywhere.

Applejack, I'm sure, knows how to grow and care for apples and apple trees, and how to sell them afterward. She knows what she needs to, and is happy that way.

^And this - she's wiser than the rest of the girls put together.

Bad weather is a break down in the system...like delayed flights at an airport...or a traffic accident.

I don't know. You would think with total weather control you would not make that kind of weather (unless your some kind of criminal I guess).

I still think that is being very generous. Plus if the fandom had it's way she would be an Outer God.

^^^Pinkie seems like the sort that gets stuff when she looks at it, but she can't articulate it in any understandable way. I mean, she's a fairly accomplished inventor at the very least, but I doubt anyone looking at her gyrocopter blueprints would even be able to tell which way was up.

That's a pretty severe handicap when it comes to intellect, I have to say.

Or, like in a recent fanfic on eq daily featuring Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, some kinds of rogue weather are from the Everfree and wild enough to require multiple weather control teams to tame.

Pinkie is clearly quite bright, but she gets sidetracked too easily and sometimes makes the common wiseguy mistake of forgetting her friends haven't figured it out yet. Her real expertise is in putting parties together and pranking and having a good time and generally sharing happiness.

Ahh Zazie Rainyday...another source of inspiration...

Here's my take on those:

• Twilight is primarily intellectual in her knowledge; give her a book on something and she'll memorize the crap out of it and be able to comprehend it, no problem. Thing is, most of her intellect is theoretical; she has difficulty applying it properly.

• Applejack is basically the opposite of Twilight; she probably has very little patience for book knowledge (she'd probably find a textbook on botany horribly boring), but she can pick up practical that she's interested in and needs to know really quickly. Like she has no idea why crop rotation works, but knows exactly when to do the rotating, and for how long, and so forth.

• Pinkie Pie is more a repository or random trivia than anything else. On occasion it turns out to be usefully. Outside of that, I agree with Red's assessment, she's not stupid, but her brain is so different from all the other ponies that they have no clue how she gets from point A to point B.

Ever since that incident when a weather team forgot to flip their calendars over to the next month, Weather Control has hired a new courier team of pegasi to remind everypony to stay on track with the weather, to avoid further accidents.

Yeah, I get the feeling that there are rogue weather fronts from outside Equestria and from the Forest. If a storm kicks up in the Forest, there's no way that's not at least rattling a few windows at Fluttershy's house.

She does have some weirdly specific knowledge that makes you wonder what she does when nobody's watching her. Like with the Parasprites.

Now I want to practice drawing ponies, all so that I can draw the hypothetical panic attack of the pegasi that forgot the rain schedule that day.
