Yeah, I imagine him as having a vast store of random knowledge, but never taking the time to put it together before hand. He's good at the Indy Ploy, but doesn't have Twilight's organizational skill. He'd make the Winter Wrap Up take even longer.

^^Nothing wrong with that. =) Say what you will about Megasweet, but she's got quite a vibrant and expressive style. Her pictures pop!

^Pessimists who are convinced that they're realists are the most annoyingly self-assured people, in my opinion.

And there's nothing wrong with that in a character. It's a flaw, but they don't see it. Just as the Mane Six have their issues, this shadow version should, too.

Here are my foils:

OK this is just a start but:

Foil! Twilight (occupation undecided) is a bit of a brilliant but lazy frat boy as opposed to Twi's studious bookworm persona...never panics, master of the indie ploy and improvisation. Agent Moulder to her Agent Scully. Has a green baby girl dragon named scales. Is comepletely unadorkable.

Foil! AJ is an Earth Pony trucker...as in he is the truck! Large and immensely strong. A native of Manehattan...still has elements of the accent. Nice, but with elements of the scary black man. Clumsy, little common sense, panics easily.

Foil! RD is a Pegasus firefighter. Skilled, loyal, awesome, but calm and composed, and introverted. Confident in his abilities...but dosn't like being the center of attention.

Foil! Rarity is a Unicorn blacksmith and artist...artistic, generous, hard working...but uncouth, scuffy, grubby and tasteless. Often covered in soot. Chews with his mouth open, spits, dosn't shave often etc. Still an overdramatic large ham.

Foil! FS is a Pegasus and the town doctor...unlike FS, he is forward, forcefull, even jerkish, fearless and completely unapolgetic...but has a heart of gold and will stop at nothing to save ponies and help them with their problems.

Foil! Pinkie works at his aunt and uncles pizza place and often does street entertaining...just as wacky and as random as Pinkie...but is completely silent and never says a word. Has a parrot to do the talking. A reworking of my magic mime idea...he may still get the powers.

He would believe whatever stuff Pinkie says, basically. Not a skeptic at all. Slight conspiracy theroist, and continues to mention something about "the stars aided her escape" and has been barred from Canterlot for something that is left unexplained.

Twilight and (let's jsut call him Jade Star) happen to run into each other in Ponyville.

They remember each other from school. he got kicked out shortly after she left for Ponyville, and he's here gathering up his motly crew of stallions.

He's being given instructions from someone inside the Royal Court. Find so-and-so, mention this-or-that, ask these questions. So he knows that he's part of a greater plot, but is stymied about what it's all about.

^ Having trouble thinking up of a Spooky-name. he needs a unicorn-like surname. Nebula?

Anyways, I had sort of gone off an even balance of magic and friendship. Like I said, he sort of refuses to make actual connections and friends, just brushing with ponies momentarily. He's still distant from the actual group, but he's slowly warming up to them.
