As an amateur artist, I like Rarity's fashion skills. At least she can think up better outfits designs than I can :V

Her designs are...fancy, I guess.

It's hard to accurately judge, since pony fashion should be waaayyy different than our own, technically. But it has always bugged me that her designs seem dependent on gem stones.

Well... that IS what her Cutie Mark is. Gems. It's natrual that she'd have a penchant for them. It's not like they're rare or anything

I like Rarity's fashion skills too, one of the only few disagreements we'd have is that I find gems, especially in overabundance, to look tasteless, that and her hats leave much to be desired.

I like her hats...

It's just...if she really wanted to find something hard, it would be dyes. Before the discovery of Aniline dyes in the Victorian Era, all dyes were made the exact same way they were thousands of years ago. It wasn't until the 1800s you could get purple that was not from those shells that the Romans used.

And don't even get me STARTED on the sheer, well, rarity, of the color red, which was only discovered across the ocean, with the Aztecs. Before then, any red was very dull, or faded. The spaniards actually had to do a secret infiltration mission to bring back the cactus and bug required to make a proper brilliant dye.

I like both her nice hats and Silly Hats. Silly Hats are best hats.

That treehat she wore is one of the silly hats. And yes, a hat can be Nice and Silly at the same time.

Rarity uses tons of colours, and some of them look to be in colours that might be considered rare in early times.

yeah took me a while to get that one too.

The beret was nice. Some of her hats in Sweet And Elite were definitely silly.

I wonder if Rarity has any "modern" dye choices that were discovered by textile dye expert ponies. I'm sure there're some arcane spells for colour sealing or permanently altering pigments to produce the colour of choice.

Well, since she has a sewing machine, which was also invented during the Victorian era, probably.

I'm spoilt by future technology. When you know of crazy things like exploiting nanotech-pigment to create scratchproof colour-changing coats that are fractions of a milimeter thin, you get used to having any colour you please as long as you know the colour codes or pantones.

I bet Rarity's silly hats are partly a trait she kept from her parents.
