AOS: Do not feel so spoiled. The colors are limited. Computers run on an RGB color base, but printers run on a CMYK color base. Both can make colors the other cant, which means that both don't support certain colors the others do.

Which means that our technology is not completely advanced in the color department.

True dat, and then some genius figures out how to work RGB, CMYK, and pantones into the colour code system. I know for a fact that even GIMP and Photoshop can work with both CMYK and RGB colour codes.

I wonder how rich the colour depth is for those active camo squids. I'd love to reverse-engineer their colour-changing ability.

...I now picture Sea Ponies with active-camo colour changing abilities.

AOS: Sure, they can handle both, but if you try to print it, that RGB color you liked so much might not be available. This has happened to me before.

The only thing I find particularly silly about those is how big they are. If they were smaller they wouldn't even look all that gaudy.

Camo pattern with flowers and a ribbon in it? Only use I can think of for it is for hiding in flower gardens.

Gaudy is the perfect word, though, Ginger.

I didn't think they'd be able to sustain the "rarity and giant hats" joke, but I was wrong since the show practically throws them at as at light speed.

It was a conflict of neccessity and her own personal tastes. She just merged them in a less than ideal way.

I don't think she'd ever willingly wear Camo.

I've NEVER CARED about fashion though. So when people throw the word gaudy around to describe something that I think looks perfectly fine I just think it sounds pompours

I enjoy stylistic camo. It can be quite attractive when put on correctly.

Perhaps if she had her camo be purple, it would have looked better?

"Gaudy" is a fine word, as long as you apply to stuff that actually is gaudy. Stuff like Rarity's hats don't seem to gaudy to me. Fancy maybe, but they're not over the top or bedazzled enough to fall into gaudy territory.

I am a wannabe artist, and I took history of fashion. I don't really care what I look like in real life, but I do enjoy fictional elements of it.

Looking gaudy is not necessarily a bad thing. It just means "really really REALLY showy"

Some people like that.

And naturally, since this is a cartoon, everything gets exaggerated. Most things Rarity wears would be gaudy by our real life standards, which are slightly more dull.

It could be worse. She could have been inspired by Tudor and Elizabethan fashion.

I don't mind Gaudy if it's being used in a POSITIVE manner, but I hate it when people use it as an insult. Unless I actually think it IS gaudy (and I have very, very low standards)

And I think we should've learned by now... subtlety is NOT one of Rare's strong suits

I think I worded it wrongly. Since I have NO standards whatsoever, if I consider something gaudy, it's a safe bet to say that it is Gaudy

Well, subtlety is indeed the opposite of gaudiness, so I don't think anyone is entirely wrong if they judge Rarity's clothing to be such a thing.

I hate discussing fashion, because I'm always completely out of my depth and come off sounding like an idiot.

The only thing of Rare's that's ever made me burst out laughing because of how ridiculous it is was her Fire Ruby necklace.
