I always thought the timeline went:

• Equestria was founded
• Discord took over
• Celestia & Luna defeat Discord
• Celestia & Luna took over Equestria
• Luna went nuts

Maybe the sisters were originally travelers, and they just happened to stumble across Equestria while it was under Discord's rule? Either that, or they were just standard residents in Equestria before all this

That's kind of how I envisioned it, too.

So if the play is on old Equestrian times, nevermind all what I wrote about Luna getting wierd. She'll probably be mere background.

We could still have her getting pissed about historical inaccuracy. The sisters seem like they'd be up on their history

Luna could still be miffed about how the script plays out. I could just imagine her turning to Celestia and asking just how the story ended up so embellished compared to the real deal.

oh hai der. This week sucked, except for any part that involved ponies, which was far to few.

also, I pretty much think Ginger's timetable is the one that makes the most sense.

Come to think of it, there are problems on both sides:

If Equestria was founded BEFORE Luna and Celestia arrived: Why does there seem to be day and night? I guess this lends more credence to the "Celestia and Luna didn't CREATE the celestial bodies, rather, they merely control them" theory. Well If that's the case then I can't understand why Luna would be pissed about Equestrians sleeping during the night. If night existed before she took it over, then she should've known already that that's when ponies chose to sleep, no excuse to be angry about it. The implication to me always felt like she was honestly surprised that her subjects sleapt during the night.

If Equestria was founded AFTER Luna and Celestia arrived: Why didn't the sisters lend a hand with this mess?

hmmm, here's an idea. Celestia and Luna existed, and controlled the night and day before Equestria was founded. But they simply didn't interact with the ponies at all, they just went about there heavenly duties and the three pony races also kept to themselves.

The three pony races got together, formally created the nation/society/whatever it actually is, of Equestria.

The sisters still don't pay attention to it.

Discord comes along and starts using the ponies of Equestria for his own entertainment, Celestia and Luna see this, and decide they can't stand by and watch, so they finally come down and reveal themselves to the ponies, and free them from Discord.

The sisters take up residence in Equestria and begin trying to guide/nurture/protect the ponies as there rulers. Celestia ends up getting more attention and praise, Luna gets ignored, or at least starts feeling like she is and slowly slips into Nightmare Moon mode.

Maybe the day/night cycle was permanently screwed up by Discord's influence, which is why the sisters need to control it.

This is who gave Luna speaking lessons a thousand years ago.

Now I wonder where Discord came from.

Weirdly, if you look at it. Either Discord is a phenomenally HIGH level deity. Or Celestia is a surprisingly LOW level deity. (maybe both) Given the apparent gap in their power levels

Well if you ask me,

In the beginning, three pony races lived seperately,

Discord came and took control, ruled over all ponies, making them suffer,

Celestia and Luna rise up and overthrow him after discovering the elements of harmony,

They become the rulers, unite all pony races under one banner, and set out the responsibilites,

Luna becomes Nightmare Moon,

Celestia defeats her, and rules alone as best as she can.

I like that explanation,

Well, the plot of their play seems to be about the three races uniting on their own. For some reason I don't think Discord's gonna get a mention. It'd make things too complex

Well he is Draconequus, not an Alicorn so at the very least he is a fundamentally different kind of deity then Celestia or Luna. I'm still not sure if their are actually more Draconequi(sp?) out their, if they are at the same strength as Discord, or if Discord is exceptionally powerful even among them (if there are more of them).

Fanon will be adjusted and changed as needed. I doubt people will make to big of a deal out of it.

I speculate that They choose Celestia as their proncess not because her power over the sub. But because she represents every-pony, as opposed of one pony race ruling(representing equity).

Race-wise, Maybe Discord is to Draconequi, what Luna and Celestia are to Ponies? A higher version of the same basic creature

Minor dranconi are like trickster creatures that hassle single ponies or groups of ponies...Discord is the King.

Cherileee did speak af If Disvord wasn't the only draconequis. But a race full of beings like him would be too much :p

Draconequi are the pony equivalent of The Fair Folk.

Well what I mean is...Discord's bull can effect all of Equestria...but a minor Dranconius (sp) can only cause trouble for a single family.

Maybe Discord was an unintended side effect of creating the Elements of Harmony. Whoever made them hadn't been expecting a balancing force of chaos to be created at the same time.

Discord is refered to as the SPIRIT of chaos and disharmony. Maybe abstract concepts like that are prone to being given physical form from time to time in this world. I'm not sure what controls what creature they take the form of though. Maybe a race with strong ties to the concept in question?

We'll see a humanized version of the elements of harmony at some point It will be a Well-Intentioned Extremist
