Discord might be mentioned, but it'll probably be only in passing, like as part of the play's prologue or something. You know "After Discord was vanquished, the ponies were divided, blah blah blah". Maybe Discord is the reason that the pony races weren't united. We know how he loves turning friends against each other, so it would make perfect sense for him to try to start a war or disharmony between the races. Like they lived in harmony, Discord screwed them all up, and the princesses defeated him and had to reunite the ponies.

While we're talking princesses here... I've seen more than one picture of Celestia with pink, not-constantly-moving hairs

◊, especially in fanarts representing her as a filly.

Is this pure fanon, or has it some ground in reality that I've missed?

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it has something to do with the pink "Celestia" toys.

Sorry, I misremembered. It was her coat that was turned pink, not her mane.

@Talden: It's also because Luna had a plain mane in her first appearance, and a more Celestia-esque one later, so fans figured that Celestia's mane probably developed similarly.

@CDRW: Eh that's just a combination of Hype Aversion and the fact that he assumes that bronies watch the show ironically. I don't agree with him on either point, but it's not like either of those things are new. And there are quite a few comments calling him out on the fact that a lot of people who watch the show do so because they enjoy it rather than because it's "trendy" or whatever.

Basically, he assumes that bronies watch the show sheerly for the novelty of "lol i'm a 25-year-old man watching my little pony" rather than because they actually enjoy the show for what it is.

Well, most people assumed that Luna was a fair bit younger than Celestia in the 2nd episode, and that if her mane looked like that, it would make sense to give young Celestia a similar mane.

The problem is, he's kinda sorta right. Part of the reason I like the show is because of the inherent rediculousness. It's different than what he said, but close enough that I can't really point out a functional difference. I don't like it ironicaly, but I do like it in part because it's not aimed at me.

@CDRA: I agree that it wouldn't be quite the same, but unless that's the only reason you're watching the show, I think he's overgeneralizing. I mean, I find the novelty of the fact mildy funny, but I don't watch the show because of that; it's just a little extra bonus.

I noticed it, I just didn't think it was really worth bringing up. Yeah, he misrepresents the fandom a bit, but it's not like he's hostile or anything.

Yeah, pretty much. Basically he's assuming that people are drawn to the show for the memes and inside jokes rather than due to the shows actual quality; basically that bronies aren't really fans of the show, but rather of all the jokes it spawns.

I've ALWAYS watched cartoons and stuff (eve girly crap) so the novelty never really affected me. It's a good show, ergo, I watch it

That's basically how I approach pretty much all my media; if I like it great, if not move on to the next thing. Take each work on its own merits.

@ JT Oh there's no way in hell that's the only reason I like it. This is the first time I've ever actually identified myself as a fan of anything. Or in other words, immersed myself into it. It's because this is the first time I've ever come across a show that was this awesome, that also has an awesome fandom attached to it.

For example. Princess Tutu is great, but it doesn't have any fans dedicated to it, and the story is too complete to really make many good fan-produced works.
