I don't really have an issue with rarity and the gem, since it wasn't a case of "I WANT IT, GIVE IT TO ME" She had no issue with Spike having the gem and not her, until she learned he was planning on eating it. It wasn't as much that she wanted it for herself, as she simply didnt want something that amazing being destroyed.

[up] Ugh, that sounds like my sister. She wouldn't eat any of her easter eggs for about 3 years because she thought they were too pretty to eat. [lol]

It was still mean of her though. He spent months growing that thing, it was his.

Spike's head makes the squeaky smile sound. My life is now complete!

Oh, do we have names for the doctor and the vet yet? (I actually expected Twilight to object to having Spike classified as a pet, as well.)

[up][up] Maybe...but it seems controversal among the fans (around here anyway).

But see, this show can do the r word! wink

I'm not sure what to think about Rarity on the gem; on one hand I can kinda understand her reaction in wanting to save something so rare from getting eaten, on the other hand it really does look like she's trying to get Spike to give it to her. It might have helped if she looked more surprised when he offers it to her.

@ fallen, no it's not, all that's official is that Rarity is aware of Spike's crush, not that she reciprocates.

Listening to the voices it sounds like Rarity doesn't really want the gem for herself, she just finds it being eaten to be gaudey. However if you hit mute and look at the animation then Rarity's posture and movements suggest she DOES want Spike to give it to her. Possibly a disconnect between the animation team an dthe VAs on this point.

Or she unconciously wants spike to give it to her so it isn't destroyed?

By the by, think we're ever going to see that necklace make a comeback?

[up][up] Or showing just how nuanced and real the ponies are. Part of rarity wanted the gem for herself, but she also didn't want to take it away from Spike, and yet another part didn't really care who had it as long as it wasn't destroyed. etc...

[up][up]That's probably what the show was going for, but it came across as more intentional.

[up]I hope so, if only as a continuity nod. If there's another high society party, I could see Rarity wearing it.

^It would be nice if we did, though that might be edging a bit too far into official ship territory for some fans.

Anyway, given the Spike Filter, it's hard for me to say one way or the other whether Rarity was deliberately being charming. Given the other time it happened (which was... "A Dog And Pony Show"...?), I'm actually inclined to say she didn't mean to.

Seems like there was a bit of Unfortunate Implications in this episode. So Rarity already knew about Spike's crush, but that makes it look all the more likely that she's been using that in order to get things from him.

That minor piece of fridge logic aside, I really enjoyed this episode. Lyra, Bonbon, the callbacks to Dragonshy (one of my favorites), not to mention pretty much everything AJ said and did were some of my highlights. I definitely liked this more than the other Spike-centric episode(s).

Fluttershy sounded a little different in this one. She sounded more like Pinkie than usual. I guess she was in a state of near-panic most of the time, but still.

Also, I'm beginning to get more and more of a read on the different writers. For instance, M.A. Larson likes the full-cast adventurish episodes. That, and he seems to be developing a habit of Worfing the Wonderbolts. tongue

[up] To be fair, what Proud Warrior Race Guy talents do the Wonderbolts have, other than entertaining crowds with synchronized flying?

Guys! Anyone else familiar with a scene wherein a green central figure amasses things around it that spiral into the center in a feedback loop of more mass/more pull, eventually turning into something huge and horrible?

[up][up][up] Is there a quick chart or something that list who wrote each episoes all in one conveinent place? And on a related note, do we know who wrote next week's ep?

[up] There's one on the MLP wiki. Unfortunately, the writers don't tend to be announced until the episode itself.

Watch me get ninjad a bunch.

Oh hey, I actually didn't. That's something new. grin

I'm also fond of Rarity's speech to Spike. And also wow, I feel bad for Spitfire and the other two Wonderbolts. (That wasn't Surprise or Soarin', so maybe two we don't have names for yet.)

Also: Bets that those cloaks will be showing up again in our Christmas episode? (I still can't decide whether Hearths' Warming Eve will be the Christmas episode or not.)

Well, good episode. Truly enjoyed it. Great to have seen the King Kong reference.

And now I'd really like to see an Applejack episode down the line. Seriously, that gall always gets such great lines, but no episode.
Calvin: I kind of resent the manufacturer's implicit assumption that this would amuse me.

well the first one next year is about Granny Smith it seems, so should have a good chunk of Applejack as well.
