The stallion who brought in Spike's egg during Twilight's entrance exam was the same one who asked if she was OK during her "Yes, yes, yes" freak out in Ponyville a little while later.

So he moved from Canterlot to Ponyville too at some point?

Ah, ah, ah! The box can't be open, otherwise the experiment is invalidated. The Schrodinger's Cat problem specifically stipulates that the box is closed.

At best, you could have a box with a question mark, or something.

Simple explanation: It's a kind of Uncertainty principle, a thought experiment that proves you can't know what the state of something is until you go and look.

It involves a cat in a box. You won't know if the cat is alive or dead until you go and look. Some physicist wag raised the idea that as long as you don't know the cat's condition, it is both alive and dead. Terry Pratchett countered that there is a third state for the cat, that is absolutely furious.

I always figured the undead were just dead people too stupid to realize they should stop moving about.

(Hey, it's not as if the idea of zombies isn't inherently stupid to begin with. Two minutes of basic biology will tell you they just can't happen.)

Not so much a joke as Schroedinger trying to show how absurd the idea was that the cat would be both alive and dead. You were supposed to respond with "of course it can't be both". I think. I don't know anything about quantum whatever, because that's fancy mathematics.
