To which of the Kongs? My favourite is Caesar.

Speculation: What would an MLP episode written by Neil Gaiman be like? My bet is that it would surely involve the Princesses.

I have been reading a lot of Neil Gaiman lately. The Sandman. Lucifer. I am enthralled and terrified of what he could do with such a setting as Equestria.

[up][up]That's already covered by CMC episodes though.

[up]The episodes description mentioned about Spike being greedy on his birthday, so its likely possible the moral is not to be greedy.

Neil Gaiman, huh? Hmmmmm. Probably dreams and whimsy. And also lots of Accidental Nightmare Fuel. Perhaps something vile and faceless infecting the dreams of the Ponies, not quite giving nightmares, but just uncannily uncomfortable dreams, until it gets stopped by something magical.

Food for thought: How about an episode written by Alan Moore?

He wrote and episode of Dr who I liked so I guess it would be pretty cool :)

And all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "save us!" And I'll whisper "okey dokey lokey".

@ Great God Pan: The nightmare fuel in Neil Gaiman stories is hardly accidental.

I hated Coraline, in fact I saw lot's of kids having nightmares/crying for that movie, so darker and edgier isn't nessesarily a good thing.

@Pan: I was thinking more in the terms of the Godesses dying or the laws of the land Changing or something equally world-shattering. Have you read The Sandman? I can assure you, it is not Good Omens. I have never read anything more frightening in my life.

Here, the concept that terrorizes the the most is Equestria being shown as only one more tiny realm of the Endless, immense Dreaming, of the things that never were, that are not, and shall never be, as the shared refuge of thousands of thousands of males with their own stories that range from the heartrending to the banal... and then some reckless, selfish asshole witch or wizard or some conflagration of supernaturals fucking it up.

[up][up]The NightmareFuel potholes to accidental, because of the uneasy transition between high octane being "n f but more so" to high octane being "purposeful" as opposed to "accidental". If you want to say unaccidental you must say High Octane Nightmare Fuel. Neil Gaiman doesn't use fuel. He uses kerosene. Remeber the scene where Methods Of Rationality Harry freaked out at Mc Gonagall turning into a cat? Imagine his reaction to these stories. There is no chance in hell you can use Sufficiently Analyzed Magic. Dream Logic is the most brutal anti-logic there is.

Well, so what? Is that so wrong? Sometimes, it's fun to be scared. <_<

[up][up][up]I'd think he might give us a day in Celestia's feet, how it feels to be a God, to have been a God for so long, how she struggles against loneliness, how it felt to create, what the world was like before... He could explore Equestrian magic, the "logic" underneath, the symbols and the traditions.

[up]I'd say that was the point entirely. That movie played with some primal wants and fears, tempting you and then giving you false change. It is a classic, Scare 'Em Straight work, subtly and handily crafter. The terror of tooth and fang and blood is only fleeting. But the fear of Parental Abandonment, and its inverse, the fear of being goaded and then betrayed by smiling, powerful grownups, is something that you can see everywhere. It is a fear true, made fantastic, so that it can slither under our skins and nest in our hearts unguarded. And I wouldn't say "fun" so much as... stirring. We make fun of True Art. We like our popculture, our easy, sweet entertainment. But bitterness, while not pleasurable, is something we learn to appreciate.

I loved Coraline, but I admittatly am an unabashed Neil Gaiman fanboy. And Eldritch Abomination is my favorite trope, so make of that what you will.

[up][up][up]But that's exactly the episode I'm waiting for! Now I really want Neil Gaiman to come and write it. :(

Speaking of Sandman, I wonder if Luna has the power to enter and control the dreams of sleeping ponies.

Well, Luna isn't exactly One of those Who Stand above the Gods, is she?

The possibility of a Neil Gaiman episode is very appealing. . .now what would a Terry Pratchett episode be like?

Well, Freddy's probably a Nightmare. But I'm not seeing Luna as the next Corinthian, y'know? :p
