Ginger, if it makes you feel any better, I suppressed a "Meme, here we come" groan when Pinkie brought out the Party Cannon.

I'm ambivalent on the Party Cannon. I hold no malice towards it, and I find the idea amusing, but I still think Twilight's dancing was like at least a billion percent funnier.

Just saw the episode I loved it I am so proud of Rarity.

I cringed a bit when the mane 6 crashed the garden party. You'd think they'd have learned from the last time they crashed an upper crust party. Suddenly I understand why the Japanese fans keep commenting that these ponies are too forward.

My favourite part would be Fleur being all over Fancy Pants. Lots of whut. I also like the birthday party as a whole. I want that BGM.

Eh, I laughed at the Party Cannon. On an in-show level, I loved it. But on an internet-level, I really hope it goes the way of most season 2 memes and becomes relatively obscure after a couple new episodes. I don't know what I'd do if it became the next 20% Cooler.

Just had a thought: when Rarity launches the yacht, it's a blimp. So now they have the equivalent of zeppelins/blimps? Awesome!

Also, what was up with Fleur's body shape? Was it just to show that Fancy Pants gets all them mares?

I'm apparently in the minority, but I didn't find her "hot" at all. I just thought she looked anorexic. Somepony get that mare a triple order of hay fries with cheese!

@Fallen: Japanese culture values stoicism and maintaining one's poise and composure a lot more than most western cultures do. They'd typically place a pretty high medium on keeping to oneself and not being overly emotional. Something like crashing a party by acting wild would be an even more enormous faux pas for them than it would be in the west.

Things like talking over your feelings at length, which is pretty common in show, would be kinda weird to them. Given the situations in the show, they'd probably edge more to the side of "let everypony work out their own issues rather than burden others with them", which is probably why they think the ponies are "too" forward.

Seriously, the mane cast (except for Twilight... maybe) were being obnoxious dicks at the end. IMO, the others were well within their rights to lamp them and yell GTFO.

@Fallen Legend: I don't remember the specific incident but it was one of the comments for the early episodes. The ponies can be incredibly blunt and in your face, both figuratively and literally. It's just a bit of culture shock. East (and Southeast) Asian cultures tend to be more reserved when regarding strangers, and the Japanese are especially polite.

No, they weren't being dicks. They were being charmingly rustic. Fancy Pants said so and, as the most popular pony, his opinions is the only one that matters.

Just finished Sweet and Elite. I watched this fully expecting the usual lower-class-is-good-upper-class-is-bad Aesop, so it was a very pleasant surprise that it ended with a nice medium that didn't paint all of the elite in a bad light. I think this might be my favorite episode, tying with Luna's return.

Rarity, stop hogging most of the better episodes, you're supposed to be the Element of Generosity, nammit! :p

I'll admit it was a bit rude of them to suddenly show up at the party, but I get the feeling it was more a matter of them just sort of missing the point. I think that if somepony would have asked them nicely to knock it off, they would have complied.

I liked it for that reason as well. Friend or Idol Decision plots tend to be all or nothing type deals, so it was great that they decided to split the difference.

Missing the point or not, isn't that almost common sense, even in a little village? I am hesitant to accept that Twilight's reclusiveness excused her from knowing about the upper-class custom. Even if she's a 'commoner' she must have at least had a sense of how things are done in Canterlot.
