@Apple I meant the fandom's "OMFG she's so cool, she's super special awesome, uber good, better than her sister" reaction to her, and the sheer amount of artwork/fics she spawned. Then her canon personality was released and suddenly she's being touted as an awesome and complex character.

... not that I'm saying she's NOT all those things but...

She's the god, princess, she's loved by definition, or if anything isn't hated.Luna was a mystery box waiting to be opened that could've been massive disappointment or exceeded expectations.

and she's been more chance to be a character than Celestia, Celestia is sort of there.

I think the problem is that we always see Celestia in her capacity as a royal, which means she kind of has to restrain herself a bit. We need more opportunities to see her with her guard down, or getting angry like in Return of Harmony. There's been a bit of her personality coming through when she teases her subjects, we just need more of that.

Basically agree with Apple. Celestia is awesome by default, being a God Empress, Big Good, Mentor, all that jazz. Luna is dark, mysterious, cool, with varied interesting powers and a hilarious Large Ham persona. I don't wanna choose which I like more, they're Yin and Yang.

I'd love to see an episode where Celestia gets sick of doing the Princess things and tries to take a vacation in Ponyville in disguise.

I believe that calls for a facepalm of some degree.

I sort of like both the princesses equally, but the big reason I like them is because they're living, physical goddesses. I just like to imagine how a character like that must think, and react to everything.

@J Teeth: I think we've had a discussion about that before actually. She wears a disguise that everypony sees through easily, and Twilight is running around town keeping them from calling the princess out on how obvious she's being.

I like Celestia. We need to see more of Her, too.

I just happen to be some old quasi-goth from the Nineties that never did grow up properly, so I'm drawn more towards Luna and all the Sacred Darkness that She might entail. I've always had a somewhat morbid fascination with dark things. (dark chocolate is best chocolate, for example)

Although some horrible writing may utterly disenfranchise me of that notion, who knows.

@Japanese Teeth: That sounds amazing and hilarious ^^, but could reasonably be a real episode. SO MUCH potential for Paper Thin Disguises. "Yeah, I am twice as big as everyone else, with cosmic hair, and am an alicorn, but I'm certainly NOT Princess Celestia, since I'm wearing a bowler hat, not a tiara!".

Well, the alternative is "Celestia seals her own power", but that's rather cliche, and would inevitably result in some horrible danger cropping up as soon as she did so. And the Paper-Thin Disguise is even funnier. I think it should actually work on everypony (except the cast, maybe), and there's like one background pony who sees through it, but nobody else believes him.

@Apple Whenever I imagine a detective, I ALWAYS imagine them like L

@Luna I'm just not a fan of GOOD darkness. I personally dislike Dark is Not Evil. Not because I disagree with the sentiment behind it. I just don't think darkness is as aesthetically pleasing when it's being used for good.

It's why I think Batman is the most overrated thing EVER!!
