I've been thinking of checking out an episode, but I'm looking for the right time to do it. Both my roommates have seen Fi M so it's not too awkward to watch with them around, but the original series is another question entirely...
which, perhaps somewhat ironically, is exactly what I told myself before watch the first episode of Fim: Wait until roommates are gone, give it a shot then.
They are like the others. Strange, hideous, resisting, fighting. Only these were not like the others. They did not die.

Awww, that was actually a really neat design.
I thought you were just going to post a pic of Celestia as normal.
Apparently, It's a meme to say Celestia is a troll

I'm getting through putting off Pony Withdrawal by recording the episodes I missed before I got on the Pony Bandwagon (ie most of them pre-Stare Master)
It's quite possible that was a test. Celestia sent Twilight to Ponyville to make friends, so she wanted to see how she'd handle a situation in which she's have to exclude some of them.

No, see, the one ticket was for her date. Cellestia just didn't realize that Twilight Sparkle would want to bring the whole harem.

I always assumed Celestia sent the other ticket for Spike.

That would make sense, except that didn't she say it was for a "special guest"?
It's pronounced "Te-ah-low-ve"

Nope, the invitation was for Twilight, "plus one guest." I agree with Rich Reeders that it was intended as a test. She knows damn well how many friends Twilight has.

Maybe she just does that to everyone she invites and wasn't thinking that Twilight would run into trouble. Inviting Spike seemed like kind of an afterthought to her.

Yeah, sending out invitations to person + guest isn't uncommon. She probably just assumed Twilight would bring Spike along, seeing as how he's known her the longest. Depending on when the chronology is, Celestia might have assumed that Twilight hadn't gotten to know any of the Ponyville ponies well enough to feel comfortable inviting them.
Progress, Chapter 4
Upon discovering that his marefriend's roommate is Princess Luna, Hoyden talks himself through a vital matter:
"Okay... Okay..." Hoyden sighed and closed his eyes tightly. "Phew... Okay... Most important thing. Never, ever, ever suggest a threesome. No matter how hot it might be. Okay? Okay." He nodded and smiled. "Okay."
You wouldn't care what people thought about you if you knew how seldom they did.
