Black Star, Rainbow Dash, all annoying, same thing really. The only difference is RD is slightly more likable than Black Star.

I'm... nutral to Black Star. He's okay when he's actually in serious mode, but the rest of the time I just wish he would do something to back up his talk.

At least RD has consistant and legitimate reason to say she's awesome. He dayly routine consists of dong awesome things so she can be more awesome.

Also, we were right. Opal really DIDN'T get along well with the other pets. (she was climbing a tree to get away from them ffs)

also, RD dreams of flying? Isn't that a bit like me dreaming of being on this forum?

She loves flying, I guess. I've dreamed of reality before.

wait, who was arrogant and skilled in that? only insufferably arrogant person was Asuka, and while she did have some talented granted, no where near what she thought she had.

I find Black Star really annoying because his arrogance sabotages him all the time.

Rainbow Dash's personality doesn't bug me nearly as much because despite all of her bluster I think she has a (slightly) more realistic idea of her own limits. She's well aware that she doesn't always succeed, it just doesn't come up often. That, and she's still demonstrated enough skill for that personality to fit. Black Star has that attitude from square one, despite kinda being a failure.

He's talking about a Negima! character, not the series.

that is true, but it's mostly just that I can forgive him when he's being awesome. There's also the fact that, he's a cartoon, meant to be watched and enjoyed. I can appreciate him on a screen for 22 minutes at a time, or in a comic for a few pages. If I had to deal with him in real life then I would probably hate his guts. Just like the scout.

RD I can imagine getting along with, though. She at least has a shred of humility and knows her limits... most of the time. And she does have other redeeming qualities.

I've just never understood how someone can be JUSTIFIED in being arrogant. Arrogance I find is one of the most loathsome feelings in the entire world, especially when you can back it up.

Take Twilight. She's uber powerful but isn't a show off about it. She's aware and proud of her skills, but she doesn't taunt people and bang on about how great she she is like Eva, Black Star and RD do.

I think that an arrogant person who is also as skilled as they say is more sufferable than an arrogant person who most certainly does not live up to their hype, but also doesn't learn from their failures.

Because at least the former isn't either a chronic liar or totally oblivious.

Even RD is aware of her limitations. The arrogance only bugs me when it's used to put down others. RD talks a lot about how awesome she is, but it's rarely in a "I'm an awesome flier, therefore I'm better than you" kind of way. And it's not like she brings it up all the time either; as far as I can remember, she only goes on about her own skill when it comes up as part of the plot. I won't comment on the Eva thing; this isn't the thread for that.

Arrogance can sometimes be used as a cover for insecurity. Admitting flaws or perceived flaws can be difficult, and boasting is an easy cover. Obviously that's not always the case, but I'd say its at least partly true for Rainbow Dash. She can get pretty hard on herself when things start going against her.

when they do have ability, they don't need to use arrogance as a cover, they're good enough to show off whenever they want. They're arrogant for the sake of being arrogant

Guys, I want to stick the Clockpunk pony in with a squad of other heroes/villians (can't decide their MO. But anti heroes could be best).

Here's some ideas:

A Unicorn knight trapped in stone (Cockatrice?) in a cave for 1000 years. Suffers similar problems to Luna. Outdated mode of speaking, loss of friends and family, and can't quite grasp a world were stallions are equal to mares (Stallions were to be seen, not heard). Knows the anicent lost art of sheild combat, using her magic to make her sheild into a flying disk of doom, and a hoverboard.

A hippogriff warrior. Combines the might of a griffon with the speed and agility (and weather control powers) of a Pegasus. Weilds a Godendag (a massive spikey club of doom). Can run it against clouds to build up lightning in it, turning it into a massive cattle prod. Is actually a bit of a softy...think Dave the Barbarian as a flying eagle pony.

And...the clockpunk pony.

Should I stick with three?

Oh most certainly. Just look at Sonic Rainboom. This is the problem when "winning" is what your decide you like to do more than anything.
