Problem is is that you can't use Celestia as an actual character. She is supposed to be this perfect, godlike figure. Using her in any way besides Reasonable Authority Figure and mentor would change the show in more ways then we want.

Luna, on the other hand, is free game, while having much of the same problems that Celestia would have if she wasn't supposed to be so perfect.

Not that that stops people from Alternate Character Interpretationing the hell out of Celestia.

Luna really benefited from being a powerful, important character with no real established personality. It's like a field day for fanon. I wouldn't say I liked her before Luna Eclipsed, since there wasn't much there to like, but I was excited to see what they'd do with the character and how she'd fit in with the rest of the cast. Still waiting on that actually. Twilight gets along okay with her, but everypony else was basically tolerating her because Twi said to.

I don't really talk about fanon, really. I was just talking about how the characters could be used in canon. And Luna certainly has the edge there when it comes to being used as anything else but a plot device.

Oh definitely. Celestia is to busy being the wise regal mentor and disappearing whenever there's an actual threat to get much development. Luna on the other hand I can totally see tagging along with the girls on whatever the adventure of the week is.

I'm really hoping the presence of Luna lets us see Celestia in a context other than the princess or Twilight's mentor. We need some sisterly affection between those two.

See, that's actually the thing I like most about Celestia, she's such a striking example of Royals Who Actually Do Something that It makes the few moments where she's acting casual or angry all the more effective.

I actually CAN'T imagine that tbh. Luna's WAY too much of a game breaker to tag along with the Mane Cast

I probably shouldn't have used the word adventure. It's not like they need to be fighting a dragon or whatever. Most of the episodes deal with some social situation which Luna would be, if anything, a hindrance to.

Yeah you shouldn't have used that word. Imagine how short Over A Barrel, Dragonshy, and Swarm Of the Century would've been if Luna was with them

In some ways that makes Luna HARDER to use than Celestia. Luna strikes me as being much more pro-active than Celestia. Celestia usually has her Magnificent Bitch thing going on, so she's normally holding herself back because she's manipulating the girls into learning some kind of lesson (or otherwise knows that things will turn out ok)

for example, If Luna were at the young flyer's competition, I'm sure she would've saved Rarity.

Again, that only applies if the characters are in physical danger. In less serious situations, attempts to brute force a solution with magic might just make things worse. Throw her into Winter Wrap Up and she'd be in the same out of place position as Twilight. Or Applebuck Season, her attempting to pick the whole damn crop at once would only make Applejack mad. And I'm really curious how she'd act at a sleepover.

That said, I'd love to see her in Boast Busters.

"Does anypony else think they have the power to challenge the Great and Powerful Trixie? Oh, uh, princess. Hi. Um, right, I'll just be going now."

Also, Celestia was at that event and she didn't do shit.

Actually, given how Alicorn's embody all of the races. I'm sure she'd be conventionally strong enough to help out during Winter Wrap Up (not to mention she has wings)

and that's what I was getting at. Celestia and Luna have vastly different mindsets. Celestia took one look at Rarity falling and probably thought: "I trust my subjects to handle this themselves, they can't rely on me all the time" I can't imagine Luna thinking like that. If ya get me?

I'm probably picking bad examples because its 2 AM, but my point is that it wouldn't be that hard to write episodes for Luna that aren't resolved with generous application of magic. Given how long Luna's been out of the world there's plenty for her to be ignorant about. Really, I just want to see more Luna. I think it would be kind of cool if Twilight became sort of her friendship mentor.

How busy do you think Luna is anyway? Do you think she has much to do outside of controlling the moon?

I have no idea. She must have been doing something for the past year, but it sure wasn't learning to associate with other ponies. Maybe she spent all that time eating. 1000 years with no food will leave you with a killer appetite. Or catching up on a millenia worth of books.

Being traped in Moon like this propably means that you don't need eat or do other normaly important thing.

Now I can imagine Luna doing the Sweetie-scoot because she has nothing to do.

I watched Red Dwarf where Lister eat all this powder stuff what was everywhere on ship propably because he was hungry before being puted in stasis.

And Moon thing is something diffrent from stasis.

We've been given absolutely NO insight into what being "Trapped in the moon" entails

For all we know, she could've been in an ultra boring motel room for a thousand years.

She's on there, between Colgate and Doctor Whooves. Or are you talking about her entry not having a picture?

No we really haven't seen evidence that Spike thinks of Twilight as anything more than a big sister. Though it certainly won't be the first or last time fanon has assumed things that seem possible but lack actual evidence in canon (Rainbow Dash and her backstory has a lot of this sort of fanon).

She was turned into unicorn shadow on moon, so no phisical form. We can't be sure how much aware she was during that time horever.
