^I doubt Celestia would have been cruel enough to break Luna about it. I always kind of got from the opening narration that Luna just sort of let her jealousy fester and eat away at her until she was already powerful enough to oppose her sister, at which point she refused to lower the moon.

I think that the reason that Celestia's mane went from pink to rainbow-colored was because of her use of the Elements. The rainbow thing that they do changed the color of her mane or something.

Maybe Celestia didn't realise how important it was to her. After all Celestia had never been in a position where everypony shunned the day.

She'd already used the Elements against Discord though.

Did Celestia wear 5 necklaces and the big crown thingy when she used the elements? Or do the elements change form depending on their user?

I like to think Celestia had a massive crown with the 6 elements embedded in them

Given that the crown and necklaces have gems in the shapes of their bearer's cutie marks, it's a safe bet that they change form.

I think she's just depicted wearing the crown in the opening story. So yeah, probably big six-gem inlaid crown.

IIRC, according to the story book intro (not the best source) Celestia wore a tiara and had five different gems surrounding her.

What I thought was, one day, Luna just refused to lower the moon. She said she wouldn't lower it until the population learned to love it. Celestia, as her 'equal' in power, couldn't override her, and could only plead with her to see reason. She still refused.

Then, something strange began to happen. The longer this went on, the stranger Luna became. She slowly turns into NN. Celestia is horrified (My Sister! WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU?!!), and is forced to use her Elements to lock this...thing, up in the moon (as NN, not Luna). After sobbing her eyes out for a week, she takes up the throne as sole ruler...and she sets in motion a plan that will take a thousand years to develop...to fix her sister.

How was Celestia even able to use the elements? Return Of Harmony showed us that merely wanting the threat to go away isn't enough to activate them. You have to actively resonate harmoniously with another Element bearer. At the time, the only other element wielder would've been Luna.

There was enough good left in Luna's heart, and enough awareness that what she was doing was wrong, for her to harmonize with Celestia just long enough for her to use the elements

Luna's Elements were Loyalty, Generosity and maybe Kindness. When she refused to lower the moon, she betrayed her subjects, forced them to live with only her gifts and wasn't being very kind. This took away her affinities for the Elements leaving them free for Celestia to use.

My headcannon has always been then Luna was building up a large amount of resentment and jealousy over the ponies liking the day.Celestia better. But it was a third, evil force that subtely tempted her to let it all out and give into her hatred, turning her into NMM.

Basicly that Luna was NMM, she was acting by her won choice, but there was another being that subtly helped push her into becoming NMM.

Okay. Here's my big idea:

I plan to attempt a Zecoran of the entire first season. Episode by episode.

This will take days and you'll probably hear soul-rendering screams.

Record it and put it on Youtube, you'll almost certainly get put on Equestria Daily.

On the question on who I'd rather hang out with: I like feeling useful and having my effort appreciated, so I'd probably go with AJ as a first choice, and see if I could help her around the farm.

As for a second choice, well, I probably couldn't handle Pinkie's energy, or keep up with Rainbow Dash, and even if I do get past Fluttershy's fear of meeting new people, it will probably be pretty quiet. so that's probably going to be a pleasant afternoon of geeking out with Twilight.

What about Rarity?

So Celestia resonated harmoniously with... herself?

If another pony from that time (either frozen in time, or a ghost) meets the mane 6 and gives them there account.

Starswirl the Bearded comes from the past to teach ponies about history.

She resonated with Trollestia and Molestia of course.

She'd hate my outfit and give me a makeover. And I hate that. T-shirt 'n jeans is all the fashion I need, thank you very much.

Then again, learning a little about it from an expert might increase my appreciation a little, and while Rarity is pretty dramatic, she can be reasoned with. Myeah, I guess I wouldn't hate it too much. But geeking out wins over makeover, and a good honest day of work wins over both.
