I was talking more about people with no prior experience who went "Holy Crap that plushie sold for like a thousand bucks! I could do that!" and then end up in the hole because they burn through two hundred bucks in materials due to not knowing what they're doing and spending dozens of hours working on it, and then not being able to make much money because the result isn't particularly well made.

Someone with prior experience with that sort of thing who already knows the materials required and has the proper tools could probably do pretty well, as they don't have to invest as much money or time.

Also most plushies don't go for that much.

[up]Which is probably due to saturation. At first, there were only a handful of people who made really good stuff, so people were willing to pay more. Then a bunch of other people realized they could make good money on it and started making their own. Eventually prices stabilized, so most of them don't go for nearly as much as they used to.

Still too expensive for me, though.

I've seen some Fallout Equestria character plushies go for 250 bucks a piece, but those are for a niche audience so it's understandable. The average price for decent quality plushes seems to be between 50 and 80.

Plus the people willing to pay big bucks for plushies probably already did so.

I got my Build-a-Bear Dashie already :3 Plan to use the material from a gutted Sims 3 cushion to make a small (if a little crude due to no templates being used) Dashie plushie that will be pocket sized.

If it's on Amazon...well I don't really know if that makes it more legit than eBay.

@Star: Depends on the quality. As for the RD... well there's one review that appears to be legit, but at the same time I'd check to see if it's an official product before throwing any money at it.

Around 50 to 80 dollars for the cheaper but still decent ones. The middle price is around 100 to 120.

Yeah, I'd pay maybe forty at most for something show-accurate. Any more than that and I can't really justify it.

Right okay. Though I have mentioned before I have a picture that I took while at Reading in the Oracle Shopping Centre I took a picy of a Rainbow Plushie outside of Build-A-Bear but I'm trying to find a site that will put images on there. I've tried Photobucket but seeing as I've haven't used that site in ages I don't know how the new system works so any alternative sites so I may show you the picy I got?

The higher quality plushies tend to go fro $300-400 for main six, about half as much for stallions or popular background ponies and possibly throw on another $100 if it's a princess. Top tier plushie makers can generally get $800-1200, depending on the pony (consider that the top tier is that way because theses are pretty much sewing masters, though).

Unique one-of-a-kinds tend to go for a lot more too. Like the nearly 5 foot tall Rainbow Dash (the size was massive novelty boost to the price tag) that went for $4900 or the Gala!Shy and Gala!Dash, which went for somewhere around $2800 and $2600, respectively.

EDIT: Should add that with decent quality plushies coming from companies like 4DE en mass and with a much cheaper price tag, I think the non-top tier plushie makers are going to see people willing to pay less and less.

Welp, I don't think I could justify spending more than $20, $30 tops on a plushie, so I guess I'm never getting one. o_O

If I really wanted a plush, I'd pay 200 if it's good quality, but that would be the utmost limit.

Good god, the price for the plushie I'm after has got nothing on the plushies that cost over £500 to £2000! Compared to that it's pocket change! It's true, there are people in the world that will pay for a crazy sum just for something they want! Man and I thought people on Kickstarter were bad.
