Or Robert Jordan. Unless that's the real reason he's no longer with us.
There is a tumblr about an insane thread about ponies.

I would also say Umberto Eco, but his novels just feel that long due to his dense writing style.

-shudders- Name of the Rose was torture

Really? I love all his works, though it took me about a year to fully digest Foucoult's Pendulum. In contrast, I devoured The Name of the Rose in about two weeks.

It had an interesting plot, but it was dragged down by all the Purple Prose. Oh and also the fact that I needed to rush myself reading it because school.

Frank Herbert as well.

[up][up]Ah, yeah, rushing due to school would pretty much remove any joy from reading it.

I had a week to get through it before essays. IB Paper 2 style essays. Ugh.

How many people have written a segment so far?

It's been three so far. I don't know who was first but Meta Four and myself were the last two. We've been waiting on Crowlover for weeks.

(Phone rings in the background) I'll get it guys, I'll get it! (I then pick up the receiver and then put to my ear) Hello? You've reached the My Little Pony Friendship is Magic thread on the T Vtropes forum, Starscream759 speaking, how may I help you? (Metal Decepticon insiginas come flying out of the phone narrowly missing me) Whoa holy shit!

Whereas books are sorta one-shot affairs. Your write the book, and it's published in one block.

Not necessarily. 19th century literature in particular was often episodic. Look at something like Great Expectations and it really shows.

Unless you're Stephen King

Or L Ron. Hubbard.

Frank Herbert as well.

Yeah. I never did finish Chapterhouse Dune. And I can't go back and finish it because it's been years and I've forgotten everything that happened. Plus it's not interesting enough for me to want to.

In other news, I just learned from Wikipedia that horses sweat from their armpits just like humans.

Yikes... that can't be good. At least it isn't made of cheese too... or we'd have a real problem.

-seems to curl up with non-existent plushie-

@Writing: I tend to go the opposite direction with my writing, going to the path of Beige Prose.

Plus the bloody cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers in science fiction history.

Stephen King only does so because he's extremely popular; pretty much anything he writes is going to sell, so his editors will just let him do whatever.

And yeah, a lot of historic books (such as a lot of Charles Dickens' work) was written in installment, which is why it feels long.

Can we avoid derailing the thread with pointless RP? This is not the place for that sort of thing.

Isn't there always pointless RP derailing?

Me too, mainly because I'm bad at writing. You should have seen my chapter of the fanfic.

@Freeman: Usually it's at least sorta related to the topic at hand, though.
