@storyyeller: The only Star Swirl stories I know of are the fanfic Her Illustrious Highness and the fancomics A Story of Stars & My Little Sunshine (all three of which were made before season 2 came out, so none of them address her having the same name as Star Swirl the Bearded).

I can't help but think that somebody over at hasbro has that comic hanging on their cubicle wall to help them keep some perspective on the fandom.

I think it derives from a shot of her front hooves from "A Dog And Pony Show".

I remember when that episode was more recent there was an Image Macro going around reading "NO ONE MUST EVER KNOW I AM PART MARSHMALLOW" or something.
