Segoe print. Just try to put a white shadow behind it; it makes the text easier to read. The only real guidelines are to stick to images that resemble the show's art style.
The list of posts is in my sig. Just move them to the bottom if you make an image. Unfortunately, I personally don't have the ability to enable you to add to the queue. You'd have to ask CDRW about that.

Holy fuck tonight sucked. First we have way to few people at closing, so took forever to get out. One person offered me a ride home, but got out to the car and found out there wasn't room for my bike. Halfway home, bike gets a flat tire. Get lost walking in the dark in my development. And now my stepbrother is in his fucking out of control pissed off over bullshit moods and screaming and yelling.

I wonder if there was a way to make the process more automatic. You'd still need to pick the text, image, and positioning yourself, but it should be possible to make the actual image creation automatic.

@Seraphem: Ouch, that suck. Hope things start going better.
@Syd: Here's my method in GIMP 2.8. It's clunky and could probably be improved, but it works.
- Open image, place/resize text (black, Segoe Print). This is the easy part.
- Go to the "Select by Color" tool, and use it to select the text. (Don't flatten the image yet, you want the text on it's own layer)
- After selecting the text, go to filters > light and shadow > drop shadow
- This is where it gets annoying. Set both offsets at zero, make the blur radius around 7-12 (depends on the size of the text; bigger for bigger images), change the color to white, and set the opacity at 100%. I'm sure there's a way to set the defaults so you don't have to reset it all the time, but I haven't figured it out yet. This should create a white glow around the letters.
- Go to Select > none. Then go to Image > Flatten Image
- Go to File > Export and save the image.
