@ JT
Which is why I'm not going to mine. I'm so tired of Uni, my friends no longer live here and I hate my family so, why bother? I'll just take the diploma and go.
But anyway, what's your plans now?
And yeah, the devices will be very Victorian esque. Brass, copper, ornate etc.

Well done, Magister JT. I was actually in a different province for my Masters graduation (and I was working), so it really wasn't worth going to. Pluss I'd already been to my Bachellors and Honours.
But of course, the US doesn't have honours courses, so this would only be your second as well.

@JT: If I ever actually graduate I'm skipping mine. High school graduation was enough wasted time for me, I don't need to go through that crap again. Anyway, congrats. No more tests or homework, just the soul crushing drudgery of a job.

Yet another reason why Amareica sucks.

Also, unless you become a teacher, no more summer breaks.

Ugh, no idea how I'm going to get a job. The discrimination is infuriating. I've been ever so politely denied interviews 3 times based on my VI status.

Try to have fun, dear. You're probably only going to do this once in your life

@dark: I feel your pain. My mother was blind and quadroplegic. And being a white male makes it more difficult for me to get a job as well.

I've already done it once.
But seriously, the only reason I'm going is because some family friends want to go to it. I have no idea why, but if they're coming to see me, I might as well be there. If it was purely up to me, I'd skip it. It's actually kind of funny; my advisor actually told me to bring a book to the ceremony so I'd have something to do.
But yeah, after graduation, I'm going to be working full time in a school office. Not awesome pay, but it's within walking distance of my apartment, and it means I won't have to move. I may get a teaching certification in the next year or so, but I don't know for sure yet.

So for now I just get some money from the government. At 700 bucks a month, it's barely enough to pay for rent and get enough food to last the month.
Which is why I'm forced to stay with my parents until I either save up enough for something better, go to college, or find a job. And my parents don't even trust me with money I do have claiming that I'm irresponsible.

@Sereg: I thought you were being sarcastic for a second there, but then I saw that you're from South Africa and I have no idea what things are like there.
That right there is a perfectly reasonable set of priorities.

I figure that I've already done the hard part. Now it's pony time.
@Dark: That sucks. I hope you get something figured out.

Sigh, I'm supposed to be GMing an rpg over skype in just a few hours, and my computer has decided to go into total brick mode. This is wonderful timing. What is that little apple in her hair anyway?

Aphartheid was bad. Very bad. One of the ways it was bad was the restriction of jobs available to non-whites. However, with the end of Aphartheid, the government made new laws to "compensate" for this. Pretty much every business has to "transform" to the point that they need to have a certain percentage of their employees as black, reaching certain targets by certain deadlines. They have quotas. They also have to put black people in positions of poer as part of "Black Economic Empowerment" which results in tea ladies being made managers and the wealthy black elite owning significant holdings of several companies. All sorts of benefits go to "previously disadvantaged" (which in practice means "black") as part of "Afirmative Action".
I admit that my people did horrible things, but why must I be punished for it, when it all happened before I was born and my family never supported the Aphartheid regime anyway (which honestly shouldn't matter anyway, since why should I be punished for my famly's crimes).
