AU Chrysalis, who is actually the Chrysalis we already know, having discovered just how far her shapeshifing can go. She usurps President Celesia and uses her position of influence to rig the vote for prom queen, so she can take over the clueless human Sunset and take the power of the crown. She couldn't beat Twilight on equal ground, so she intends to conquer Twilight by draining the essence of the crown's power, and confronting Twilight on a plane where Twilight can't use magic.

Okay, I don't know how much of the toy is cannon, but I remember that Sunset Shimmer's box said that she "Was a former student of Celestia" and somthing about "adventures in magical worlds".

So, in a jealous fit, she steals the crown, hides in the human world, and just acts the part of the clueless Alpha Bitch to keep Twi off her back while she plots?

Yeah, I mean...it'd be a potential diplomatic disaster, but not an outright pointless risk like Twilight walking into an alien school alone and trying to win the prom in a matter of days/weeks. And besides, it's all Sunset's fault anyway and any long-term political fallout (if any) would land on her.
