I don't get it. How are the gameboy and her turning back into NM related?

Some people felt that he was an unnecessary addition to the cast of episode 4 and seem to have preemptively called him The Wesley. Also some think his voice is annoying.

I'm sort of ambivalent on both of them. My main beef with Pipsqueak is that his introduction made him out to be more important than he ended up actually being in the episode. It was like "We're going to introduce this new character!" and then he doesn't do much. Twist at least had some sort of function in the story; the fact that she got her cutie mark when she did was sort of the desperation point for Apple Bloom; it drove home the fact that she was the only pony in her class without a CM.

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike either character. I just thought that Pip was unnecessary. He didn't detract from the episode at all, but I don't think he really added much either.

I always thought he did the accent for his pirate costume, and he just had a normal voice for the rest of the episode.

Nah, if he was trying to do a pirate voice, he would have just said "ARRRR" a lot.

Given that a lot of them were, in fact, from Britain, some of them would have had British accents yes. Some of them would also have had French or Spanish accents.

Honestly I'v still never seen anything about people hating pip. Like, Twist, nyx, other characters that people don't like, you see abuse picture of them on ponibooru all the time, but I've never seen one of pip.

According to Cracked (the most reputable source on the Internet), pirates do speak in an aggressive British dialect - I forget which one, but it's all from the portrayal of Long John Silver with that sort of exaggerated dialect in the first Treasure Island movie.
