While we're on the topic, could I get a quick description of what they look like if that's OK? From what I've gathered, they're insectoid creatures with the general shapes of ponies.

Mostly like ponies, but they have fangs, pupil-less green eyes, insectoid wings with holes, holes in their legs that go all the way through, a green, insect-like abdomen, and chitinous black body.

@Dark: Pretty much, yeah. They're matte-grey pony-shaped insects with fangs, dragonfly wings, and single-tone blue eyes with no pupils. Their 'hooves' have holes in them that make them look either rotted or like Swiss cheese, depending on who you ask.

I think the basic reason that dickishness gets treated worse than real evil is because most people have more experience with dickishness. Most people don't know mass murderers, but we all know somebody who's just a douchebag. The "evil" character is more of an abstraction; we know that they're evil, but since we lack any direct experience with it it doesn't seem as bad.

@Dark: Basically, they're like ponies, but black, have no manes (except for Chrysalis), insect-like wings, and have holes in their limbs. They're also very pointy; they have fangs and horns. Their tails are short and look more like insect wings than tails. They also have solid blue eyes with no pupils or irises.

Holy crap, and Hasbro somehow was OK with this? That sounds a little scary, even for me.

They're not that scary. They're actually kind of cuddly-looking.

Yeah they are to cartoony looking to be scary. The comic however...

If I saw a changeling in real life, I would not hesitate to attack, because I'd be too scared to retreat.

@dark: Chrysalis looks basically the same, but taller and with bigger wings. She also has a long, stringy grey-ish mane and tail, both with holes at the bottom. unlike the other changelings, Chrysalis has irises that are multiple shades of green, with black pupils slit like cat's eyes. and, being the queen, she has a long, crooked horn.

Yeah, the changelings are pretty freaking in the comic, but in the show they're not bad.

So they're drawn a bit cartoonish to avoid being scary? The adobe flash probably helps as just about everything looks somewhat jerky.

@dark: yeah, the art style helps stave away the Nightmare Fuel, but i still would not like to meet one of these things in a dark alley.

Serious point though, Chrysalis looks much nastier in the comic at times, with close ups on her fangs, snarling etc...other times she looks adorable, so it's all over the place.

Really appreciate it. Most forums I'm in just tell me to stop trying and not be involved with tv shows if I can't see most of what's going on.

@Dark: I actually wouldn't call it very jerky at all. The animation is probably some of the smoothest flash animation I've ever seen. Except for maybe Wakfu.
