@Sereg: Discworld undead like Reg Shoe, I'm sure - the man was so stubborn and so much of a wonk that he just kind of got back up again when he was killed.

As for Dullahans, they're Gaelic folklore, so I'd check out Wikipedia or a website about Irish legends. The usual basics are that they're headless knights who ride black, headless horses, and that when you're about to die they show up and throw a bucket of blood over you. They also use scythes.

I don't see Sereg problem, all those undeads are different in many setting. You can just take name, some aspects of creature and made origin in way what you want.

Perhaps more context would help. Nightmare Moon created four of them from the long dead remains of a group of ponies she previously kew to serve as servants.

The fifth will be created by the unicorn from an even older individual.

Those wikipedia articles are interesting, but I don't think I can use them in this context.

As for setting differences, yes, those provide some freedom but need I remind you what happens when people are too liberal with undead interpretations? I'm happy to do some interpretting, but I don't want too stray too far if I don't have to. And you know, Hasbro owns D&D.

Okay, this is one of the most random pony fanfics I've ever read. Basically, Applejack is a mecha driven by squirrels who are engaged in a civil war with chipmunks, fighting over a massive acorn.

Actually, that's not a slight on Twilight's quality (I don't feel qualified to comment on that, having never read it), but an acknowledgement on the massive ammounts of nerdrage that it has earned.

Twilight saga problem wasn't fact that author went to far with her interpretation but screwed up it or maybe even it was only story problem. Adventure Time have liberal interpretation of vampires and it is awesome.

Even look how MLPFIM treat some mythological creatures.

In that context you can make Lich or Vampire. Fallen demigod could create such creatures whatever original owner of body wanted it or not.

Also more D&D, what used by Redcloak: Huecuva, Eye of Fear and Flame (who with Death Knight were Xykon decoys during fall of Azure City).

Or maybe use name of undead horse creature, there must be something like that.

And how about Headless Horse? (It could have blond mane and tea cutie mark :D).

I too spent most of the night unconscious.

Even the likes of the Scarlet Sisters are more like vampire-like youkai than actual True Ancestors.

BTW Dullahan could be good name for ancient pony city.

Having read all 4 books, I can assue you that it needs improvement. It's not like the worst books ever, and people do exaggerate their flaws, but they aren't that great either.

The thing is that it has interesting world building and interesting side characters, but it squanders that by making the main plot about a boring and vapid romance between the least interesting characters in the series. And the protagonist is literally Too Dumb to Live (good thing she's boyfriends with Superman). Also the plot of the last book is basically a canon fanfic.

Anyway, I'd recommend Luminosity. It's basically what Twilight should have been.

Heck, I'd say even Star Wars Episode 2 is better than Twilight. At least you get your cool action scenes to break up the "romance".

I second the Luminosity recommendation.

As far as vampires go, the ones in Noblesse are the coolest, at least from what I've seen. The higher tiers are basically Saiyans but with class.
