Bah. This is "Rock Farming isn't a thing" all over again.
I have a message from another time...

I'd say Rock Farming is most definitely real thing; it was confirmed by Trixie as well.
#362628EnlongWed, 1st May '13 6:16:57 PMfrom The Underground Facility
Exactly. The "Rock Farming isn't a thing" hypothesis was proven wrong.

Ah.
Well, there you have it; at least to me, so far the MK is not a thing.

Whether or not Magic Kindergarten is a thing is kinda insubstantial. There must be some sort of "intro to magic" class for unicorns, it's just a question of what it's called.
And I never went through all the stereotypical high school shenanigans either. Granted, I went to a private school, but it was pretty similar to a public school in most respects aside from the fact that the teachers weren't idiots. Mostly.

In a completely irrelevant topic, over a decade, I've yet to meet a math teacher who wasn't weird.
#362632the LibrarianWed, 1st May '13 6:29:18 PMfrom his own little world
So I'm making a powerpoint for my brony presentation for Friday. I've got a slide for each of the mane six, a bit of background on the show, some bits of controversy, three pieces of fanart going beautiful, epic, and cute...What else should I put?
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.
#362633CrowfallWed, 1st May '13 6:29:18 PM
I'm sure there was a lot of high school bullshit going on around me, but I was pretty oblivious back then so I didn't really notice it.
Pony boobs.

It's only this year I have weird math teachers.
Looks like the Nazgul. Also the most duped image apparently.

That's my dream. It's my nightmare. Crawling, slithering, along the edge of a straight razor … and surviving.

Okay, sure, I'll procrastinate on my high school English essay to talk about high school.
Yeah, high school is nowhere near as terrible as every cartoon makes it out to be. I guess a lot of writers/ animators were bullied or something?
Although I also think it's because real high school is too "hardcore"/ too boring/ actually sorta complex for a child audience. Lots of sex, mild drug use, drinking, tests, relationships, petty drama, coming of age, ect. When captured correctly, it's actually can be pretty interesting— at least for someone like me, who loves seeing how people tick.
Really, it's middle school that's the nightmarish one. No one prepared me for that hell hole.

Mine definitely fell under the "too boring" category. None of those things you said applied to me.
Man, college was way better.
#362637Japanese TeethWed, 1st May '13 6:42:07 PMfrom Meinong's jungle
Same here. I never really ran into most of that stuff. I know that a lot of it happened, but I almost never ran into any of it.

Why would Magic Kidnergarten not exist? Surely, if it didn't Twilight would have been imagining some other prior embarassing level of school to be busted back to, right?
I got the impression that in her hysteria, she was trying to come up with something even worse. And outside of that one line there is no evidence that it exists and circumstancial evidence that it doesn't exist (kids that age are implied to not be able to do magic yet)

Yeah, I just saw a lot of them. Didn't really run into much.
But of course, I had to find something else to mess my life up to these days. -__-

great news guys: i am officially moved out of my old decrepit, dingy, moldy, roach-infested apartment!
also, another pony parody video (it's best if you full-screen and hd this one):

I think it's also playing up the sterotypes for drama.

That's what happens when you keep imitate the imitation without checking out the real life accounts yourself.
#362643Princess GwenevereWed, 1st May '13 6:59:38 PMfrom A Witches Barrier
I've only been a direct witness/ heard second hand from my strange web of friends many of the things mentioned above. So I had many views on the same stories with varying embellishments and biases, while I usually stayed quiet and neutral in the matter.
Although the Coming of Age Story and the relationships applies to me personally. (The second one ended awkwardly and a little messily, but I think everything's better now. I think.)
Speaking of not checking real life, I've never understood what was up with the whole "High School Hierarchy" thing that's so persistent. Never in my life have I ever seen any school where anything like that applies.

So I was archive-binging Irregular Webcomic! and came across this. Replace the Harry Potter stuff with Alicorn Twilight and you have a pretty good summary of the fanbase. Also, the annotation is spot on.
#362645Orion AuroraWed, 1st May '13 7:08:42 PMfrom Andromeda Galaxy
@JT: OOC: Speaking of continuity, I would be pretty boned if Orion got a speaking role of any type. Chances are, some of my fannon I've made up will got right out the window.
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.
#362646Princess GwenevereWed, 1st May '13 7:09:05 PMfrom A Witches Barrier
Oh god, yes. That's pretty spot on. Honestly, there are plenty of legitimate criticisms, but I think a bulk of the whinging comes from "It's not going the way I want it to, therefor I hate it."
Since he doesn't really have the fanon levels of Derpy or Lyra or the like, you're probably safe.

@JT: I await with bated breath whatever minor thing from season 4 will throw everyone into a huff. Probably Gilda coming back or something, because God forbid the writers reuse a character so they can build on them and make them deeper, that would be pandering.

To be fair, the explanation for Snape's loyalty left some contradictions in the backstory. The timeline doesn't add up.

#362649CrowfallWed, 1st May '13 7:11:30 PM
Really? What specifically was contradictory? I didn't notice anything when reading it, though to be fair I didn't read it over a dozen times like the earlier books.
#362650Japanese TeethWed, 1st May '13 7:15:54 PMfrom Meinong's jungle
@Crow: Even though I don't like Gilda much, I'd be all for it. Then again, if I had my way, S4 wouldn't have any new characters and would focus more on developing existing secondary characters.
