Regarding technology, it's hard to say, given we don't know the inner workings of anything beyond "It's powered by magic". If I had to guess I'd say Twilight's scientific equipment, as such specialized stuff is usually top of the line, especially as she's Celestia's personal pupil.

But seriously, I'm... I don't even know. I'm not worried about it aside from fandom drama, because I'm pretty sure it's non-canon to the main show. It honestly depends on the execution. I think that it definitely could be done well, especially if they have AU counterparts to minor characters as well (Celestia as the Principal, Discord as the crazy janitor, the Mayor as a college intern, Big Mac as a star football player or something, etc.)
