All depends on how good a one you want.
I don't know, just something serviceable, I guess. It's just that I've recently found it next to impossible to play fighting games with a keyboard, so I'm trying to decide whether shelling out the cash for a more natural control scheme would be worth it.
@JT: I checked Amazon. I have no real idea what all I'm looking for, and the prices they list for different joysticks are all over the place.

Don't go for a cut-rate joystick, that's how you get diseases. HOOOO
In all serious, from what I can tell from the 2.5 minutes of searching I just did, I'd say anywhere in the 100-200 dollar range.

Yeah, I'd really have no idea either. Although if it's for a fighting game, you might want to go with a gamepad rather than a joystick. Most joysticks nowadays are designed for flight sim games.

Higher-end flightsticks surpass even top-end arcade fighting sticks in quality, they have hat switches and amazing analog control sensors.
You can build a decent custom arcade stick for less than $50ish with the right parts scrounging and some technical knowhow/craftskills.
A cheapo Logitech gamepad can be under S$39.90. I should know, I got an all-digital old-school pad for S$19.90 and the dual-analog variant for S$39.90.

Everything is so expensive these days!
GW models that cost £25 four years ago now cost £31. Desel here is around £1.40 a litre. That's why I switched to kerosine (but don't tell the tax man! 
)
