Well there's obviously some overlap, but I don't think there's a causative effect. If anything, there's probably a bigger influence from Homestuck, but even that's just a coincidental overlap primary due to demographics.

I've seen almost no crossover with touhou or homestuck. Surprisingly little, in fact.

Well, there's some overlap in that all three fandoms generate a massive amount of fan material. so much that there's fans who're fans of the material and haven't seen/read the original. For instance I know a guy who enjoys FOE and hasn't seen or played either.
