It was a lovely little episode and I had no problems with it.

Yeah. Overall this episode gave me the same reaction as "Look Before You Sleep" Meh. There was one thing I was bugged about though. When Rarity was so upset about losing the saphires why didn't she just take the time to pull them off the page and wash them.

Perhaps she didn't want to ruin her little sister's artwork? Say what you will about Rarity (Or I will at least while the rest of yo using her praises) She isn't a complete monster.

I generally liked the episode. I'll probably find some points of contention later, and then rant about them whilst I work on giving my Scootaloos Chickens water.

They'd have had glue and paper on them.

Y'know, I just thought of something.

Spike is all-but a mailman, because he sends letters to Celestia. Derpy Hooves is also a mail-pony.

Does that mean Spike is Derpy?

She could clean the sapphires, but doing so would take time and effort that she probably wanted to expend on other stuff.

you know, just realized this, Sweetie and Rarity would have come in LAST place, not second, they never actually crossed the finish line.

She saw it as a "mess" and didn't truly appreciate the design until after Sweetie Belle had left.

As soon as the sequences of Sweetie Belle messing up happened I kind of wanted the morals to be 'even if she messes up sometimes she's still your sister' or something along those lines. As it is Sweetie Belle's mess turning out to be good is okay, I guess. Not the first time the morals didn't go as thoroughly as I thought they could have gone given the story.

I caught the switch about halfway through when I noticed a suspiciously horn shaped glob of mud. Since when was Rarity such a badass?

I hear there's a fair bit of Applejack in this episode?

You know, Rarity must have some Hidden Depths to her because she didn't seem to have any problems pulling off stunts in that race that we would normally expect Applejack to do.

There is so much Applejack this episode. You shall be pleased.

overall good episode, my least favorite of the season so far, but still a great watch, the rest were just better. Cliched over used plot, but done with superb execution and without gluing an Idiot Ball / Conflict Ball to anypony's hoof, plenty of jokes as well as character development. Overall a good solid MLP:FIP story.

just one major flaw....WHY NO SWEETIE BELLE SINGING!!!!?????

Yeah, it kinda seemed like Rarity was overreacting to every little thing early on.

I kinda wish Applejack had come off as less perfect. She was a borderline Canon Sue in this episode, and we're already talking about a cartoon written by people who appear to think that anyone of class or nobility is shallow and stupid while at the same time idealizing the meek and lower class workers. I mean I can see what they're getting at, but I don't want Applejack to develop the problem Twilight Sparkle has, where she's the go-to pony that has all the answers except in episodes that specifically call for her to be wrong.

The switch was more apparent with a higher res stream, but still only if you're paying attention.

Did anyone else notice that the same couple of birds showed up at the beginning and end of the episode?

I was sort of expecting AJ and Applebloom to get into an argument about something stupid and Sweetie Belle would realize that all sisters have issues sometimes.
