Yes it does seem odd that Scootaloo didn't appear at all.

And I'm seriously missing the pony tunes this season. There hasn't been a single one since Best Night Ever.

I managed to miss that detail.

works for me but how does drippy + pokey = equal purple

I'm a fan of Derpy/Ponet, since Ponet is, ya know, a purple unicorn with a blonde mane. Shame the pairing isn't more popular.

I'm going to try to work sparkler into the family. Though I'm not sure who fathered her

[up] never heard of him sorry

it actually works well for my headcannon because I think Dinky was fathered by a sperm donor

Didn't notice it was Rarity covered in mud until (I think) I managed to catch a glimpse of the eye.

Did anyone else notice how athletic Rarity was in this episode?

Pretty impressive considering the only time she did anything that impressive was when she kicked that manticore in the second episode.

I was kind of jarred by this episode, actually. It's like, we had a string of hectic, insane episodes, and now we've got one that's a lot more mundane.

That's not a bad thing, honestly.

The only thing I didn't like was that I kinda knew where the story was going to go almost right out the door. When the race came my hopes were raised a bit—I was honestly expecting the story to reveal that Applejack worked better with Sweetie than she ever did with Apple Bloom, causing the latter to become upset and become Rarity's sister. That would have been entertaining.

Still, not bad, better than most sisters-reconciling stories I've seen. Also, dug wet!Rarity near the end of the episode.

@ Japanese Teeth, got it on her carchter sheet, forgot about the trope page.

New Dinky idea, the unicorn she was with was her cousin on her father's side.

Is it that hard to understand? Rarity has Blue Eyes rather than Green Eyes so that was the only difference that was easily noticiable when both were covered in mud.

[up][up] If you look you can see a few shot where it looks like you can see a mud covered horn, that's when I called it.

I don't pay much attention to eye-color when it comes to television. Odd, considering that I think I have a general eye for detail.

And I actually had to deal with my youngest sister during the time the episode was airing.

I think I'm gong to place this episode in the "solid but now awesome" category. There were no glaring problems, I liked the fact that Applejack, Rarity, and Sweetie Belle got more time, but at the same time it was a bit more predictable than most of the other episodes. Probably doesn't help that none of the mane cast outside of Applejack and Rarity even shows up.

[up]How do you think Berry Punch powered up enough to win the competition?

@ Great God Pan: what's hard to understand? Drippy went to a bank and .... Did what a woman dos at that kind of bank the first time it resulted in "sparkler" is that right? the second time it resulted in Dinky

I wanted to see Scootaloo compete.

I think this is the first episode since Look Before You Sleep to really focus on Rarity and Applejack, and it's nice to see their friendship didn't just snap back after what they learned that episode. Yay for character development.

In the end, this is what the cartoon is about. We have see these plot lines before (like the arguing siblings) but they make it watchable. For example, I'm so glad Rarity and Sweetie Belle were talking to each other before the final commercial break. Granted, nothing came of it but at least those two (plus the Apple sibling) were communicating.

[up][up][up] yes yes YES

Sure the plot sounds cliched, but they manage to execute the idea while making it believable.

I'm kinda wondering how this episode will effect Applejack's popularity. It seems to have potential to both make people think she's awesome, or else cement her reputation for blandness.

Also, couldn't help notice that Rarity says "with Celestia as my witness, " thereby confirming that Celestia is considered God in this universe.
