the problem with fusion fics is that it's really easy to fall into the trap of making it the exact same thing as the other piece of media, but with ponies.

fanfics are supposed to tell a story of your own, not retell another story with some small changes...

@Blissey: That's exactly why I'm not a fan of fusion fics. That and I always feel like it's a missed opportunity for some character interaction.

Well, yes. Obviously if you do it that way it's going to have a somewhat boring result.

I don't. I find Fusion Fics not to be crossovers but rather semi-blatant X Meets Y fanfic. That is to say I don;t like them I just thank that They are a different genre from cossovers.

Mostly I get annoyed and start to lose interest when Known Ponies in fanfics act wildly out-of-character without any prior divergent development. OOC for no apparent reason annoys me :V

Also, you can easily avoid darker fics if you want to.

@Ace: As far as I'm concerned that's basically the cardinal sin for a fanfic. Which is probably why I don't read them very often.

Ooh! Another one which is not really a Fusion Fic, but almost is and is pretty fun is The Legend of Star Swirl the Bearded, for The Hobbit.
