Not calling it impossible, just difficult. Of course, with The Elements of Harmony and the way Villain Decay works in the Tolkienverse, there are things that will help.

There are abilities in Dn D called "Throw Anything" and "Really Thow Anything" some guys have worked out ways to use them to allow charactes to throw moons at people for billions of damage.
And considering that horses in D&D are Large creatures, Shining Armor could conceivably take levels in Hulking Hurler.

I've never seen too many decent crossovers. It could be that I've personally not liked them much, but stuff like the Doctor is established enough that it doesn't really count. If there is a crossover, I prefer the fusion fic approach.

A Fusion Fic is a crossover where instead of the casts meeting, one cast takes the role of the other cast. Though, in the case of ponies, I extend that to pony O Cs like with Fallout: Equestria.
Admittedly, I haven't actually read many pony crossovers at all, but conceptwise I prfer it that way. Only other Fusion Fic other than FOE I can think of is Fate/Lunaverse, which is of course, a fanfic of a fanverse.
