Eh... I've never really gone for the whole, Fluttershy is part earth pony thing.

I mean, I'm 6'3", 250 pounds, and can lift over 100 pounds over my head with no problem.

My brother is half a foot shorter than me, 115 pounds, and can barely even lift 100 pounds. He probably does more physical work that I do.

Some people are just mutants, is what I'm getting at.

I'm just saying. Genes are really weird - she could have drawn a really, really shitty hand in the physical department, and a damn good one in the charms department. Or hell, maybe her high-society family bred for looks (which she clearly has), but it had the side effect of not being so good in the strength department. There's a lot of options beyond crossbreeding, and while it's possible, at least according to Faust, we haven't really seen it in the show right now. So I guess unless we see here parents as being one way or the other, I'm going to assume the norm. Plus, I don't really like the idea of trying to make excuses for this or that 'failing'. This show is supposed to show how it's alright to be this or that different kind of girl, so why does she need a reason for being weak? Why can't she just be weak, and that's okay?

Or she's subtly trying to coerce Fluttershy into marriage, so she moves up in society.

Most of the pegasi we've seen are either average or atheletic. Then again, the atheletic ones were around Rainbow Dash, so that might've just been jocks hanging out. I'm not saying a weak pegasus couldn't exist, it's just that we haven't seen many others.

It'd be pretty difficult to tell, offhand. All we've got for Fluttershy being weak is hearsay - she can still fly just fine. And since almost all the pegasi we've seen flying have been adults, so if Fluttershy can fly we have to assume, unless they're outright crippled, they'd be able to fly too. Just like all adults can walk or run for a bit, but some can't do it for that long.

Just because we haven't seen other weak pegasi, doesn't mean they don't exist. Hell, one of the background ones could very well be, but they're just background characters, so we don't know. It's not like Fluttershy is completely incapable of flight or snapping the neck of a freaking bear.

Oh yes, and Fluttershy only said she used to be a weak flyer as a foal. She seems pretty okay for now, unless she hears dragon roars.

Unless her dad is dead or her parents are separated it's unlikely Fluttershy is half earth pony. She did say she'd never been near the ground before, and it would be difficult for an earth pony to live in Cloudsdale.

And what I meant is that there doesn't need to be reason why Fluttershy is weak, just like we haven't been given a reason that Twilight is stupidly powerful, or Dash is crazy fast, or that Pinkie is... Pinkie. Fluttershy should be allowed to just be weak as part of her character; no backstory, no reasoning, she's just weak.

Well, seeing the inconsistency between the show and pretty much everything else, I'd say they're best left ignored or atleast not taken as part of the shows canon.
